More About the Author

Cookbook author Judith Fertig grew up in the Midwest, went to college and cooking school in Europe, and now lives in Kansas City. Described by Saveur Magazine as a "heartland cookbook icon," Fertig writes cookbooks that reflect her love of bread, baking, barbecue, and the fabulous foods of the Heartland.

You can read some of her cookbooks like novels--the fabulously photographed Heartland, the award-winning and James Beard Awards-nominated Prairie Home Cooking (a "tour de force," says Saveur), the encylopedic All-American Desserts, and Prairie Home Breads. Her IACP Cookbook Award-winning The Back in the Swing Cookbook (with Barbara C. Unell) takes you on a delicious daily journey to get you back in the swing after breast cancer.

And one of her books IS a novel, her debut The Cake Therapist (June 2015), the story of a talented pastry chef with a very special gift who opens a bakery in her hometown, with mesmerizing results.

Other books reflect her ongoing reign as a tiara-totin' BBQ Queen, having fun with co-author and co-queen Karen Adler, from BBQ Bash, 300 Big & Bold Barbecue Recipes, and Weeknight Grilling to 25 Essentials Planking, 25 Essentials Grilling Fish, and the best-selling The Gardener and the Grill. Do you know the 4 BBQ Queen Waves for when you become famous (for your barbecue or anything else) ?? Here are a few hints: Wiping the windshield, screwing in a lightbulb, fluttering the air. . . . Do them along with us on the Food Network. http://www.Youtube.com/watch?v=bGFVownwvVA

And some of her cookbooks just make you want to get in that kitchen and stir up something new--with one-bowl, no-knead bread in 200 Fast & Easy Artisan Breads or with your "electric assisant" in The Artisan Bread Machine.

Check out her blog on http://www.judithfertig.com/ for even more recipes, photos, and a peek into her kitchen.

This book has some nice ideas about mixing flavors and creating interesting cupcakes. Unfortunately, the recipe directions are not very clear and leaves many questions unanswered when making the cakes and fillings. I tried 4 different cupcakes and they all came out OK but not amazing ( I do have some baking experience). Over all I wouldn't recommend this book as a recipe guide, but I would recommend it for its ideas of mixing flavors and varieties. I would use different recipes to actually make the cupcakes and icings.

I was excited to pick up this book because of the unique and creative flavors, such as postacio rosewater and kahlua orange, that set it apart from my other cupcake books. Unfortunately, I've tried several recipies and found that the resulting portions are strange (15 cupcakes?), the cake is very dry, and the instructions for preparation are poor. This book now serves as strictly as inspiration for flavors and presentation. I would reccomend making the batter from another recipe book/box and then using the 500 cupcakes recipes to adjust the flavor.

Not a legit cookbook. Mostly pics of same vanilla cupcupcake in a different cupcake paper and different coloring in the frosting. What a waste of money.

I just love this book! All recipes are simple to make and its variations. The only thing is that it doesn't have a section where it explains measurements, weighing, volumes and so forth; I had to research elsewhere because I am a first time baker. Otherwise I highly recomend this book.

because this was written and published in England, the quantities were hard to follow. a recipe would give 4 oz of flour. Now was that
4 oz. by weight or 1/2 cup. there was no table to conversions. therefore most of the recipes are worthless. i did contact the
publishers and they were more than willing to take the book back and return my money. However it would have cost me 4 X's the
original cost of the book to return it to England. therefore i am now stuck with a book i cannot use unless someone can give me
a conversion chart. i think Amazons failure to mention the difference in amounts was negligence on their part.

Was so disappointed. Its a small and I mean small cookbook so imagine the small writing. I'm pushing 60 so it makes it difficult to read. I don't recall in the description that you would need magnifiers to use this. And honestly the recipes were unremarkable. My daughter can actually make a mean cupcake so I need something to wow me, and for the money thought that is what I was getting. Not worth the money.

I'm definitely not a baker but the recipes in this book were fairly easy to follow. I had a baby shower to throw and decided to make cupcake party favors.......banana cup cakes, peanut butter cream cheese frosting, and a caramelized banana slice on top. Delicious. I was able to mix and match frosting and cupcakes to create my own creation.
