I recently purchased this book with the predictably lame excuse "Well, you can never learn enough about deer hunting!" but in all honesty it was because I think so well of the author's writing over the years. I have to say that the book exceeded even my unreasonably high standards!

There really are 500 deer hunting tips, collected by category (stand hunting, tracking, etc.), many of which I had not heard of before. I believe most every hunter will learn a thing or two from this book, and will give it a place of honour among their favourite hunting resource & reference books.

For those of us who like beautiful pictures in our hunting books (I like ambience too) you'll be pleased to hear that I found many pictures...all of them eye-catching and from different eras of deer hunting. Pictures are also strategically placed and captioned to illustrate a point or two made by the author on that particular page.

I read this book through over a weekend, and then read it through twice again in the following weeks. The enjoyment hasn't waned with exposure, so I think you'll find value in this book.

Great book, provides a solid understanding of deer hunting that all levels of hunter can benefit from.

Excellent recommendations for both bow and gun hunters. Much of the tips are review for me. However, some advice is new and practical to use in the field. Good book for both novice and expert! Also, nice hardback cover.

I have been deer hunting for 10 years, but my luck at finding deer was much like a crap shoot. I wanted a book that could really teach me the basics as if I was brand new to the sport - THIS BOOK DOES THAT. It is an excellent primer for learning the "how's" and "why's" to deer hunting. In short, little tibits, the author covers scouting tactics, deer's preferences regarding: food sources, cover, terrain, bedding, travel routes, vegetation edges, sanctuaries, weather patterns, etc... I found alot of valuable information. When I think back to the times I saw deer in a specific spot (but didn't know why) I NOW have the answers of why the deer were there. For the price, you can't beat it. It's a bargain - jammed with alot of information!!! If you follow half of the information in this book - your odds of bagging a deer should double or triple.

Easy to read, useful tips that will make a big difference! Great pictures and a wide variety of topics.

I purchased this for my 12 year old son and his father was jealous. He said he wished he had a book to review about hunting when he was 12! Sounds like I made a good purchase.

This is a good book if you are looking for basic information on hunting. It touches a little on archery but seemed to be geared more toward hunting with firearms. It covers a wide range of topics but doesn't provide enough detail. Each "strategy" is a small paragraph that brings up a topic but doesn't expand on that topic enough. This book just didn't provide enough detail in my opinion.

The book it's self is a good book. It's a really big book and hard cover. If your planning on getting it for reading out in the field it's a little too big for that.

Lots of very informative information for anything you need to know to get in the woods and start tagging deer or for tagging more deer. Some information is very basic which makes it an outstanding book for beginners who are just starting out while still having plenty of information for veteran hunters looking to expand their knowledge of whitetail hunting. The only reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because all the measurements that are given in this book are given in metric and American, kind of annoying but all in all great product.

Hunting is a very skilled and patience way of life to master. In order to master this skill you will need to learn to do a lot of research and be willing to put in the work. The essay I have written will hopefully give you some insight on how much planning takes place before you can actually do the hunting part. In today's society there is so many easily attainable foods no one takes the considerations how our four fathers had to support there families and take it for granitite. Now days you can just go to the local fast food join and get a hamburger full of steroids and bad living conditions just to make a profit.
