The official description of the book since there is nothing here yet:

"The huge popularity of faeries in art is celebrated in this new small-format book, featuring the creations of the best artists working in the US, Europe and Japan. It continues Collins and Brown's successful series of design motif books. Such is the appeal of Fairy art that a growing number of people are now using designs for purposes as diverse as body art and personal stationery. The purpose of this book is to offer a catalogue of inspiration for Fairy lovers everywhere, whether they want to create their own transfers, stickers and greetings cards, or adorn their bodies with henna painting and tattoos. Featured atists include watercolour illustrator Linda Ravenscroft.

The book includes artworks in all mediums, from digital to watercolour and oils, and the designs themselves show these gentle, playful creatures at work, at play, in flight and performing Fairy magic."

While honestly this is not the best fairy art book available, it is a nice little collection of art if you are a fairy lover. The book includes some well known artists as well as many you may not have had a chance to see yet (and should certainly not be overlooked). It is a small format book and most of the pictures are small (with a few to a page) and lacking backgrounds due to the publisher's desire for images which would be good for tattoos or other designs; hence the "Motifs" in the title. The books suffers because of this, as the artist's works are not showcased at their best. But to discount the art in this book because it not all by well known you are used to seeing would be to miss out on a lot of great talent. As was pointed out in another review, this may not be a book for children depending on how you feel about pin up style nudity.

The book includes over 30 artists: John Arthur, Brigid Ashwood, Jasmine Becket-Griffith, Misty Benson, Linda Biggs, James Browne, Walter Bruneel, Jaqueline, Collen-Tarrolly, Kathleen Cyr, Meredith Dillman, Andy Duroe, Lisolette Erickson, Selina Fenech, Anna Franklin, Jessica Galbreth, Victoria Griffin, Suzzane Gyseman, Carrie Hawks, Ed Hicks, Juri Iida, Stathis Krabateas, Wendy Kathleen, Timothy Kobs, Silvia Lugli, Coleen Mcintyre, Karen Miles, Susan Miller, Erin Minicks, Sarah Pauline, Myrea Pettit, Natalia, Pierandrei, Nicole Pisaniello, John Randall York, Linda Ravenscroft, Aimee Ray, Suzzane Richards, Ann Mari Sjogren, Terrell Smith-Dofeo, Paulin Stuckey-Cassidy, Ryuichi Takeuchi, Melissa Valdez, Maria Van Bruggen, Linda Varos, Maria J Williams, Babara Yochum.

If you are looking for a book with more traditional illustrative fairy art or famous artists consider taking a look at "World of Fairy" or "Art of Faery". "Watercolor Fairies" and "How to Draw and Paint Fairies" are both wonderful collections of art along with how-to instruction and work-in-progress photos for the young or aspiring artist or anyone who just loves fairy art.

Fairies are vogue, fairies are everywhere and this book is no exception , it is not a read but a visual display of great depth from some of the most enchanted artists in the world. Creative , imaginative, colorful this book will enthuse the youngest to learn of beauty and nature and the spiritual connection of fairy through mind body and soul of mythic expression , for the older child it will still do all of that but encourage artistic and creative expression for education and design, and for manfacturers it is a essential library of fairy design from the foremost of the 21st century artists of the genre. Guaranteed to enthuse,to promote interests in all sorts of hobbies, from creative drawings and coloring , tracing, embroidery, tattooing , writing childrens stories these images will stir the imagination and make fantasy a reality. A must have for every home.

1.0 out of 5 stars Better Fairy Books out there, July 9, 2006
By
This review is from: 500 Fairy Motifs (Hardcover)
This book was extremely disappointing. There were a few artists whose work was up to par but many of the drawings were bizarre and/or a high school student could have drawn better. Don't even waste your money!

I recently bought this book for my own collection of Faerie Art, being a Fantasy Artist myself.
Of course the author, Myrea Pettit, does a wonderful job in her own work, and she has put into this book a couple of the finest Fantasy Artists working today, namely, the likes of Linda Ravenscroft, Jessica Galbreth, Ms. Pettit herself.
A few of the artists in this book are slightly below these three in their skill level, but quite a few of them are simply amateur-ish and given to gimmicks and the dreaded coloring-book style.
With the plethora of fine artists out there, I am frankly amazed that the author did not list some of them, rather than go for those whose 'art' is put in just to fill up to the magic '500' number.
The true value of Fantasy Art is not in making a 'pretty woman with wings, dressing her up (although mostly nude) and calling her a Faerie' ~ real Fantasy Art opens a window into the imagination of the artist ~ unless one is to deduce that most of these 'artists' are simply not very imaginative.
With the exception of the three women cited above, and a couple of others in this book, I would be hesitant to give the total of work shown more than mediocre!

This review is from: 500 Fairy Motifs (Hardcover)
This is a beautiful book with a lovely collection of fairy motifs. I was thrilled when I got it home and actually had the time to look through it. Any fairy lover would find it enthralling at the very least. It is a nice addition to any collection and I am very happy that I purchased it. The price is an added bonus. Truly a feel good book!
