Book Description

500 Series November 1, 2007
Juried by Fred Fenster, a distinguished presence in the field, 500 Metal Vessels features page after page of superbly crafted bowls, teapots, vases, chalices, urns, and other exquisite handmade hollowware. Made from diverse metals and techniques (forging, raising, casting, forming, soldering, and welding), these eye-catching pieces also display gorgeous applied surface embellishments, from enamel to repoussé. Explore Sarah Perkin’s luminous enamel bowls; the monumental vessels, made by Kim Cridler out of unassuming steel rods; and the work of Tom Ferrero, whose fascination with architecture and Gothic forms inspired his meticulous surface designs.

I really like this book, there is a lot of good work. For those of you who had a fit about the unwearable jewelry in the various 500 jewelry books: many of these vessels are non functional. So I don't want to hear your complaints like, "I don't see how anyone could use that teapot..."

Another triumph in the Lark series. Being a felt and fibre artist, I love to see what others are doing and this book gives inspiration. The photography is stunning, the pieces are spectular and the price is just plain awesome. Considering here in Australia we pay $40-50 per book, I am a happy Amazon customer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Inspiration!, August 10, 2008

I got this book for my husband, a blacksmith, to inspire him. Even though he may not always be creating vessels, the variety of forms, surface treatments, and overall concepts is fabulous. We both loved looking through it. We wished there was more description of process by the artists (there were quotes from them just sporadically), so that we could further investigate!
