5.0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas on an Ancient Item
Pitchers have been around since pottery was invented, and probably before that. And the basic elements of the design haven't changed much since. You have to have a handle, a spout, a foot, and a belly. After that there is almost an infinite variation in design opportunities. And this book shows 500 (I guess, I didn't count them myself but that's what the title says)...

3.0 out of 5 stars 500 pitchers
I own 9 of this "500" series of Lark books. This one,on Pitchers, was not inspiring to me,on the whole. That may be due to that I tend to work with low fire glazes, and am not keen on alot of stoneware glazing-something this book has a lot of.If you are a potter, and love highfire glazes, you may love this book.I sure wish I did,but as I personally do not,I sold it to a...

I own 9 of this "500" series of Lark books. This one,on Pitchers, was not inspiring to me,on the whole. That may be due to that I tend to work with low fire glazes, and am not keen on alot of stoneware glazing-something this book has a lot of.If you are a potter, and love highfire glazes, you may love this book.I sure wish I did,but as I personally do not,I sold it to a friend who is a lover of stoneware techniques. She tells me she likes it very much!In case your wondering,I have the animals, figures and bowls, cups and teapots! These publications I am extremely pleased with. Most of these have seriously unconventional approaches, and thats what I love! This particular selection would be great for someone who is a practical potter, and wants inspiration to futher their love of what they like to do best.Just because I didn't like it for my own personal use,You just might love it!

Pitchers have been around since pottery was invented, and probably before that. And the basic elements of the design haven't changed much since. You have to have a handle, a spout, a foot, and a belly. After that there is almost an infinite variation in design opportunities. And this book shows 500 (I guess, I didn't count them myself but that's what the title says) pitchers from hundreds of artists, from about 2002 through 2005.

It's an idea book for the budding potter, or the one searching for a new concept. It shows what the modern artists are doing and it is proof positive that the design efforts of the modern potters continue to be as creative as those that went before. Here is every style from Greece to ultra modern, from American gas station to oriental porcelain, from wheel thrown to slab built. It is beautifully photographed and printed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent idea book for the potter, August 14, 2006
This review is from: 500 Pitchers: Contemporary Expressions of a Classic Form (500 Series) (Paperback)
This, as well as all of Lark's 500 series are great for the pottery studio. Not only do they show the creativity of many potters but when students/potters are in a rut, it can take you right out of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ceramic "Eye Candy"!, May 31, 2007
This review is from: 500 Pitchers: Contemporary Expressions of a Classic Form (500 Series) (Paperback)
I am delighted with this book! It provides beautiful photography, stunning and varied examples of expertly-crafted pitchers, and unlimited design inspiration. Very little text is included -- the book is devoted to the photographs that illustrate these wonderful examples of form, glazing, and firing techniques. I definitely will be purchasing the "500 Cups" book now!

this entire series of pottery books is wonderful. They're inspiring and cover a wide range of styles and techniques. My own tastes and pottery style aspire more to classic wedgwood and chinese porcelains rather than the more popular organic, earthy pottery one usually sees. It is nice that this series includes examples from the entire spectrum of contemporary potters.

I really like a book that has lots of pictures of many pieces and all of them in colour. I think the whole '500' of 'whatevers' is a great series. I think I have them all. They all have my recommendation.

Absolutely my favorite! The selection of pitchers is varied--size, shape, style, wheel-thrown and handbuilt. Some of my favorite potters are also included. A pitcher is a great form too--the book inspires you to create your own.

Bought this book as I was so pleased with the companion 500 teapots. It too is a paperback with strong binding, similar to the other 500 series of pottery vessel books you will find in my reviews. It is attractively priced. This book is slightly different in scope as it covers USA potters, and predominantly stoneware reduction fire works, although not exclusively. The format of having from 1 to 3 works each of about 250 potters is adhered to.
