an inspiring visual reference,

This is a very handy book for any portrait photographer. The book is very visual, comprised mostly of photographs of poses that you can study, copy, practice with, experiment with, whatever. I think it can be easy to get stuck in a rut with posing (especially in wedding portraiture, where you're always tempted to just stick with what's worked before rather than take unnecessary risks), and this book can help guide you to new ground. There is very little text (some brief overviews of the basics of bodily posing are included) which to me is as it should be--I'd much rather see actual poses that work than read about them.

Don't buy this book expecting to learn how to pose brides. Use it as a reference book of basic poses, each accompanied by several variations, which you can use to keep out of the same old rut that it's easy to fall into when shooting weddings every weekend. You'll still need to have a basic understanding of lighting, exposure, and other techniques, but you'll find this book an excellent refresher or idea sparker when you're looking for traditional (non-adventurous) poses to use. Picasso had to learn how to paint like everybody else before he could get creative, and wedding photographers should learn all these poses, too, if they want a foundation on which to build a style of their own.

I got this book as a gift and it makes a good reference book to have on hand when needing some inspiration. Overall it was good but if I hand't gotten it as a gift I probably wouldn't have bought it myself.

If you're new to photographing weddings buy this, then sell it
Learn what you like, then sell it on amazon not for pro photogs pros: posing guide is basic cons: old school - traditional poses if you want a better high fashion look for todays bride - type in "award winning wedding photographers" into google and you can find better online free sources.

A fantastic book for posing brides and this book is very useful for posing women/girls in general as I had hoped. The photos are grouped into like categories and I find that very helpful. This book has not made it to my bookshelf yet because it stays out on my desk for reference and ideas. If you need a little help with posing ideas, go ahead and get this book, you won't be disappointed.

Anytime you see a review of music or a book you will find reviews all over the place. One person hates it or it wasn't what they wanted and the next guy loves it because it provide much of what was expected from it. I really like this book. It provides me excellent examples of how to pose young women to bring out the best in them. There is no nudity for me to have to remove and the poses are not R-Rated, they are real-world, typical posing for Senior portraits and photo sessions that I do. I like it. It gets my imagination going and I can use it to show my model/subject what I am looking for.

The book is just what it is supposed to be: a book full of pictures of brides in different poses and light conditions. Great as a consulting book, explores well some tipical situations we get into when shooting brides.

It was just OK the tite said 500 poses, I felt that a lot of the poses were basic the same poses with maybe a little lighting change. I was a little disappointed in the book as a whole.

The poses are excellent. However, a quick inspection reveals that nearly all of the photos require extensive use of off-camera flash to create the shadows and capture the moment. I'm becoming a strobist and hopefully will be a fast student on these techniques if I have any hope of duplicating these poses. I didn't even have a clue what a strobist was until a few weeks ago.
