This review is from: 500 Red Wines: The Only Red Wine Compendium You'll Ever Need (500 Series Cookbooks) (Hardcover)
500 Red Wines provides a look at wines from across the world and the various distinctions between them. This book is a nice cross between a buying guide and a wine education guide. It does cover 500 different wines of different vine variety and different areas of the world. From the west coast to the north east and across the Atlantic to France and Europe covering all the major types of wines. As a fan of South American wines I was pleased to see that the southern hemisphere is also well covered including South America, South Africa and Australia. The first part of the book provides a different description of the various vines and suggestions on how to buy in stores and order at restaurants. It is very helpful for those who are just getting started. Even experienced wine lovers will appreciate the buying guide that comes with this book. It lists about five to fifteen wines per area such as the Sonoma Valley, Boudreaux, South Africa and so on giving the reader an introduction to each area. It is useful for those who want to follow a certain vine around the world or for those who want to start with a certain area of the world and explore all the vines that area has to offer. Overall well worth the purchase and a great start for those just getting into wine.
