The book has some really nice photos, which make it a great item to have for a keepsake. I found it interesting that the book is missing some rather important bands from the list of 500, notably the ground-breaking band Clear Light, pop-rock masters Paul Revere and the Raiders (who had a ton of top ten rock singles), and blues-rock icons Foghat. It also has reference to a photo of Blue Cheer, which I didn't find, although it might be in there somewhere and marked incorrectly in the page. At any rate, it is a nice addition for my library just for the photos. Some of the information is a little sketchy, but when you cram 500 bands and artists into a book, there isn't a lot of room. Some of the bands are also missing names from their line-ups.

Don't even bother with this. It is very blase, contrived and pretentious! Author is obviously lacking in general knowledge of subject(s). More research needed!

Lots of information, after all it's covering 500 bands, but info is a paragraph or two. Very generic. Photos are interesting and the strong point of the book. Luckily, I only shelled out $6.50 for the book at a Border's "Going Out of Business" sale. Save your money. I plan on donating my copy to a local elementary school for their reference section.
