500 Songwriting Ideas: For Brave and Passionate People,
By A Customer
This review is from: 500 Songwriting Ideas (Paperback)
This book stimulates the mind to a certain degree, however each listed idea seemed rather brief. I felt it was more like a basic brainstorming tool for people who completely lacked creativity. I have also read The Songwriter's Idea Book by Sheila Davis and found that to be a fully comprehensive book providing ideas for songwriting, and it goes into more depth, providing examples where necessary... whereas this book failed to expand on the ideas listed.

500? More like 5 million ideas! A person who writes a lot can get stale, or go dry. This book is an amazing well of ideas. I use it all the time. It really gets me inspired to write new songs. It's especially useful when I'm looking for a great hook.

Stretch your imagination and your heart,

This review is from: 500 Songwriting Ideas (Paperback)
An inspirational, evocative book. The author is extremely creative, and offers her many insights - in the form of exercises the reader can try -- for songwriting. A valuable resource for anyone serious about songwriting, and, more broadly, an open invitation to be more creative.

this book is a total donkey.,

This review is from: 500 Songwriting Ideas (Paperback)
This book has very little to do with SONG writing: it contians tips on LYRIC writing... and the author's lyrics are some of the worst I've heard in a while. I feel bad being so negative but I want to save people from wasting money.

What this book is and what it is not.,
By A Customer
This review is from: 500 Songwriting Ideas (Paperback)
This book is a series of excellant motivational exercises and ideas. Examples are given from some of the best songs of the 20th century (and earlier). It includes very useful information about song form, melody, harmony, rhythm, and lyrics; the necessary elements of all songs. This book does not contain the authors lyrics. It does not contain sheet music. It is not material that you patch together to "create your own songs". It is not about instruments or recording. I find this to be an extremely inspiring and entertaining book, it can open many ideas for anyone who is willing to explore them.

Wowie,
By Eugene Bourgeois (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 500 Songwriting Ideas (Paperback)
This is a simply inspiring piece of work. I don't know what problems Jay has with the lyrics - I could find none! But maybe he's reading from a different book. This is a great source of ideas, identifying some of the ways Lisa manages to write her varied songs. I think this is bound to be helpful to anyone who wants to try making the world sing. After reading this book, try listening to some of her music, and you'll see why you'll want to join her in making people sing.
