5.0 out of 5 stars Acme set the standard for juicers
Acme was the standard for juicers when we purchased ours 15 years ago. It still does everything -- soft, hard, and green leafy vegetables, fruits, and root vegetables. The pulp from carrot and celery make the base for a great "un-chicken" salad.

3.0 out of 5 stars solid build, not hassle free
i've had my acme 5001 for years. i agree it is well-built and sturdy. my main complaint is the filter sheets. you have to use these filter sheets (which are bleached) on it. once they start getting covered with pulp, you get less juice out of the machine. so, if you are doing a lot of juicing at once, you'll have to change filters, or, it will be like a King of...

The citrus attachment is a worthwhile accesssory for orange and grapefruit juices. It is rock-solid and has never needed any part repaired or replaced.

On the down side, it is heavy, bulky, a bit noisy. The newer juicers appear more ergonomic and boast more features, but I'm not sure if they can lay claim to the durablility of the Acme.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong, dependable, great value., September 28, 2004
This review is from: Acme 5001 Juicerator 550-Watt Juice Extractor, Quite White (Kitchen)
I bought an Acme Juicerator in 1978, use it several times a week and it is still going strong! It works great, it's easy to use, and to clean. I highly recommend it. The strong motor and stainless steel disc blades powers through whatever I put in it, and the fresh juice is fabulous.

(i have been told you can juice without the sheets.) cleaning it is a hassle too. i do own the citris attachment. it works great, though big and bulky. the shoot is small also and you have to cut cup things like apples or larger veggies. also very hard to clean. i would look into better designed juicers as there are plenty to choose from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought mine in 1977, February 20, 2007

That would be 30 years of serious juicing, and it's still going strong. It powers through about anything you stuff in it, and it's heavy and stays where you put it. Yes, it's a bit noisy-- it sounds something like a miniature tree chipper (fine as long as it works like one) but it's not as loud as our KitchenAid stand mixer. It makes great juice.

Does a great job with the citrus too. I have never regretted my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love my old Acme 5001, January 20, 2011

I purchased my Acme 5001 in the mid 70's at a yard sale for $15. Two elderly ladies were selling their deceased brothers household goods and I
lucked out and got the 5001. It has been a workhorse, I have been using it 3 or 4 times a week since then. It does a terrific job on hard veggies
such as carrots, beets, celery, apples, pears, sweet potatoes, etc. It can't do small greens like parsley. It does large leaf veggies like swiss chard
well if you roll up the leafs or wrap them around a carrot before putting them down the chute. It has a stainless steel round inner basket that catches the pulp. Despite what some reviewers have said you do not need to use paper filters in the basket, it works just fine or better without them in my opinion. To clean, get a blue Scotch-Brite scrub sponge. You know the type with blue sponge on one side and blue scrubbie on the other.
Cut it in half so you have a piece thats about 3" X 3". This fits perfectly in the steel basket. First stick your hand in the basket and go completely
around the basket with your fingers catching the pulp in your hand. It will be very dry pulp, not sloppy at all. Throw it into a plastic bag or down the garbage disposal, whichever works. This takes 20 seconds. Then rinse the basket under running water in the sink while first wiping the outside of the basket with the sponge then wiping the inside with the sponge, wiping out the last of the pulp. Then rinse the other parts off under running water while using the sponge. Dry with a paper towel, reassemble and you are ready to go the next time you want juice. If you can't clean this unit in 3 or 4 minutes you just need a little more practice.
I read reviews of other juicers motors burning up after a year or so. Read the Acme 5001 reviews and you see that isn't the case here. It gives
great juice, leaves dry pulp. and, with a little practice, a cinch to clean. I will buy another if this one ever dies but so far it works as well as the day I bought it many years ago. Hope this helps........

4.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive & Works reasonably well, June 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I used Omega 1000 for about 12 years. Then I tried "Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt Juice Extractor" after reading many many great reviews. It was a total disappointment. I really wonder if the people we left reviews really made any juice. I returned this. Then I tried "Omega 4000 Stainless-Steel 1/3-HP Continuous Pulp-Ejection Juicer" as I was familiar with Omega. But this is another big disappointment. I returned this too.
Finally I bought ACME juicer and surprisingly it works great. Greens like Kale & Chards are great to use with this juicer. It extracted more juice than the other three. There is a problem if you try to reuse the leftover to extract more juice. Couple of times it went out of balance and the top came off. I do not know how the top can come off. May be I used call Acme. But I am working around it as this juicer does give more juicer compared to the three I tried. Breville was worst. Omega 4000 is poor too. But Omega 1000 is simillar to ACME 6001. Anyway I will continue to use this juicer.
Carrots, Apples & celery are great to juice out of this juicer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lasts and lasts and lasts and lasts....., March 25, 2010
I have this juicer sitting on my counter. I've owned it for 35 years believe it or not. It has had periods of time where I wasn't using it that much, but at some period during every year, this juicer has gotten a workout. Right now it is getting a workout, creating juices 6 times a day. I realize that it is now thought that centrifugal juices do not produce the most nutritional juices, but if you are going to buy one, this is was a quality built product when I bought it 35 years ago and has stood the test of time. It juices everything well, except greens. Some greens do fine in it, like Kale and Swiss Chard but something like parsley is a no go. Oh, and it is easy to clean since it uses filters and I've never once had to have it repaired or even had to replace a part. I find that amazing in this day and age.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a work horse!, May 21, 2009

Also got my Acme sometime in the 70's. Just brought it out of storage to start juicing again, and it works as well today as it did when I first bought it. Always was somewhat noisy and a bit of a pain to clean, but you get used to that quickly. It holds a lot of pulp between cleanings and a kitchen brush makes a quick job of it.

As a testament to the quality and the relative ease of cleaning, someone packed the unit away when we moved 5 years ago without cleaning it out first! It looked horrible, the pulp had dried but was reduced to a black papery crust covering the inside, and the plastic plunger was so badly stained that I thought it would have to be replaced. Wiped everything out and dumped it in the sink to soak in hot water and bleach. Didn't have much hope at that point, but 30 minutes later it washed up perfectly clean, as if nothing had ever happened to it! I was amazed, but probably shouldn't have been. This is undoubtedly one of the best things that I ever invested in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works really well!, October 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Just got this machine today and just juiced some carrot apple juice. Very fast and powerful motor. Juice was very clean with almost no pulp due to using the paper filter (they enclose 20 in the box). If it lasts as long as everyone claims then it'll be a 4.999999 rating. The only reason I didn't go to 5 starts is the small feed chute (which others mentioned and I knew about) and the difficulty getting the pulp washed out of the basket because of it's enclosed shape. I really don't see an reasonable way that they can change either; without changing the whole machine. It seems solid. I bought it to replace my Jack LaLane machine who's motor burned out. I can honestly say that this machine seems to be built much better and the pulp was definitely drier. We'll see what the future brings!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE MY JUICER - WHERE CAN I GET THE PIECE THAT PUSHES THE FRUITS AND VEGGIES DOWN. THE RED OR BLACK INSTRUJMENT., November 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Peace, I initially purchased mind about 20 years ago, lost the part that pushes the veggies down, and had to buy a new one, the 6001. I love the machine. I didnt know anything about "filers", never used them, didnt know the existed. I just put the fruit or veggies in, get the juice, and "I'M Good". If someone know how to get the instrument for pushing the veggies or fruits could you please let me know at yumnahagubael@aol.com. Thank you! GREAT MACHINE LOVE IT...
