Attached cable a nice feature. Seems rugged, well-built. Backup software worked well with Vista (Ultimate 32). I think it only allows you to install the software on one computer though.
Slightly bulkier than the WD offering, but seems like it might take a drop a little better. I like the dull finish better, as it won't scratch up as much. Overall, recommended.

Everything about this product is good; its quiet, convenient, portable and it is just a plug and play device. I even dropped it already and it still works as if it were new thanks to the shock absorbers in the device.

Doesn't get any better for the price,

I've had this portable drive for about a year now. I formatted it to NTFS so I could store larger files. 500 GB is more than enough, I simply don't see any reason for larger storage capacity for an on the go drive and the physical size of it is just small enough. I hardly ever use the turbo usb but it is handy. Quick note- if you do use the turbo usb cable you need to plug it in first, then plug the regular usb cable in afterward. Integrated wire management for the primary usb wire is a huge plus. I don't care for all of Buffalo products, but the ministation reigns supreme over all portable drives as far as I'm concerned. Bravo!

Great drive. Have been using it for a year, no problems whatsoever. Much better than the junk sold by Toshiba.

What else would you want?,

What else would you want in a convenient, USB powered storage unit? The 500GB MiniStation HD-PF Series TurboUSB 2.0 5400 RPM Portable Hard Drive simpy does the trick. No external power connector to carry or lose. Up to half a tera-bye, and it fits in my (mens) shirt pocket. (Okay, tight fit, but it does fit...)
The performance is good enough to use this as a portable backup, and also moving around my thousands of photos (jpg and RAW). I throw it into my laptop backpack and simply forget about it until I need room for a couple (or hundred) of gigabytes of storage. I simply works, is dependable, and provides capacity for flexibility. The self storage cable is a convenient plus. Speaking to other reviews, I'm not sure about the concern for no instruction manual or needing external power. This is as intuitive as it comes. Plug it in and it mounts as a drive you can use! Note: As with any USB device that requires USB power, don't expect to plug this into an unpowered USB hub. It needs to be plugged directly into a computer, or into a USB hub that provides power (not the little standalone USB hubs). Thanks Buffalo! Great unit!

I bought this for video storage. It works great, although it does need to be reformatted before putting files larger then 4gb on it.
It works on my PC with only one usb. I tried it on some older desktops and its seems like underpowered usb ports require a second power cable. *Hidden bonus* The secondary power cable charges my psp just fine.

Pros:
- Cord management is a great feature - Quiet - Durable so far after 6 months Cons: - Pretty ugly This was the first 500GB portable HD available. If I was buying one today, I'd go for WD Passport.

I've just received this and it comes with almost no instructions, which would be great if it were truly plug and play --but you need to know that to run it you have to use both USB ports to power the device --as a Mac user with a Mac book pro i would have liked to known this, I do not like having to tie up both ports --it took me 58 minutes on hold to reach tech support and I was told that there is no alternative power source available and if you want to transfer large file you need to reformat it ---I definitely would have made a different buying choice-- Customer support is very poor ----BEWARE
