As an earlier reviewer quite rightly states, once the rules of verb conjugation are learnt, this books usefulness becomes more of a "lazy persons russian verb conjugator".
However, I still purchased it, primarily because of helping me master conjugation by "visualizing" the tables. Russian Verb conjugation isn't Rocket science, but it's still a pain to learn.
If this book consisted of totally irregular verbs it would be extremely useful though and perhaps a better choice for an intermediate russian student.
Thus definitely recommended for a beginning serious Russian student but will be outgrown once you gain confidence.

If you are serious about studying a foreign language, the most important thing you can do is learn to conjugate verbs correctly. Russian is no exception to this rule. This book is an excellent tool for anyone who has trouble with conjugation. Each verb is fully conjugated with perfective and imperfective forms, as well as past and future tenses. More than any other reference book this one will help you to drastically improve your speaking abilities.

This is an indispensable guide to the conjugations of Russian verbs. While Russian isn't as difficult as it seems to the outsider the grammar is certainly difficult if only because of the number of conjugations and the number of exceptions to each rule. It's enough to frustrate a beginner. This book goes quite a long way towards helping guide you through the maze of verbal conjugations.

If you're studying Russian grammer or are seriously interested in the language you should not be without this. Along with other reviewers here I'd agree, this is a lifesaver.

On the whole, this is a good reference for beginning or intermediate students of Russian to have. However, in keeping with Beyer's teaching methods (he's a professor at my college), it often ignores complexities of the language for fear of confusing the reader. In most cases, this is not a problem, but there is at least one exception. There are russian imperfective verbs which have multiple perfective forms, and he only lists one, which might make you think it was the only one. People in one of my classes tried to use it to say that they'd cut themselves shaving and burnt their tongues drinking coffee, and instead ended up saying that they'd completely chopped themselves up while shaving and burnt their tongues to a crisp. So there are problems with the book. But it is certainly a useful reference.

This is something like an expanded dictionary of the most common and useful Russian verbs. Other reference books will help you conjugate the verbs, but this one does it for you in a very complete way. Each verb is given an entire page. All forms of the verb are shown with the accent marks. I used this all the time when I was studying. Often I would use the standard formula to determine the proper verb form, and then I would use this book to check myself. Just looking at the pages helps you to get used to thinking of Russian verbs in all their conjugations. You could study Russian without this book, but if you have it, you will find it useful.

I have used the 501 verb books for 3 different languages now, and the series is simply the best. This book is especially useful in Russian, because not only does it have the full conjugations of all the tenses for each aspect of the verb, but at the bottom of the page it also indicates what case follows that verb, which is very helpful, as it is often hard for one to figure out what case a verb governs on one's own. Highly recommended.

A great reference guide for any beginner or intermediate student of Russian. Verbs are organized nicely as well as conjugated clearly and thoroughly. If you are a high school or college student feeling overwhelmed by the "russian verb system," buy this book and see the improvements in your compositions, reading abilities, and conversation.
