5.0 out of 5 stars GE 50723 Motion Sensor Night Lite
This light is by far the best sensor motion night lite I've ever used (and I've used several). I already had a couple from several years back, but couldn't find additional ones in the stores. So glad I found them on Amazon! What makes these lights great is that 1)they put out a good amount of light 2)the sensor field is about 180 degrees, so they pick up movement...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good design but 2 out of 5 ordered stopped working within 1 week
I like this product very much, however only 3 out of the 5 that I recieved are still working, they have a limited lifetime warranty so I will be sending 2 back to the manufacturer for replacements.

Even so, I would buy again because it is a great product, but it is a sad fact that their quality control is terrible, at least for the batch of nightlights I...

So glad I found them on Amazon! What makes these lights great is that 1)they put out a good amount of light 2)the sensor field is about 180 degrees, so they pick up movement before you are standing directly in front of the light. Terrific product. If I find any other place that needs another light, I'll definitely order more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little night light, September 7, 2009
This review is from: GE 50723 LED Motion Sensing Night Light (Tools & Home Improvement)
The GE motion sensor night light is a pretty good night light. I bought 3 motion sensing night lights for my apartment and here's my review of all of them for comparison. The GE night light has a yellowish candescent bulb so it's bright, but mellow. The Maxxima is very bright in comparison because of the LED's white light. The GE bulb, however, is slightly brighter than the milky white Target brand "AmerTac" LED motion sensor night light though. The GE sensor can pick up from ~6-8 ft (a little shorter than the Maxxima and a little farther than the Target one) which is still pretty good, but the motion sensing angle isn't that good only about 120-145 degrees. I tried it in the hallway, and I have to stumble a couple feet before it picks up my movement. The night light is normal sized, so if you plug into the top socket, there's room for something else in the second socket. The light stays on for a good period of time, about ~60 sec. I prefer it over the Maxxima ~30 sec and the Target brand one that seems to stay on forever (it turns off after a couple minutes). If you were to get a bunch of them (instead of getting all different kinds like me), I think I would choose the GE one for the most uniformity and balance of features (it is a bit more expensive then the other options though).

5.0 out of 5 stars The best nightlight I've found., January 18, 2009

Not only does it have a light sensor, but it also has a motion sensor, which means that it turns itself on when it's dark and it senses movement, so that it doesn't stay on all night needlessly or annoyingly. It has a wide range of motion sense and stays on for just the right amount of time to get you where you're going. Granted, you need to find just the right spot for it, but in the hallway at the top of our stairs and right outside our bedroom it is absolutely perfect for us.

Even so, I would buy again because it is a great product, but it is a sad fact that their quality control is terrible, at least for the batch of nightlights I bought, (40% failure rate in the 1st week). Like most small electronics these days, they are not made in this country, however that is no longer a good excuse for poor quality control.

4.0 out of 5 stars Horizontal or Upright Socket makes a difference, June 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: GE 50723 LED Motion Sensing Night Light (Tools & Home Improvement)
Great item. Only draw back is that upright is the best position. I needed this as a hallway light. The light socket on the hallway is position like this (==) so when I plug this light in, it's horizontal (not upright like the picture). The problem with this is that when it is horizontal, it can only detect motion from 1 direction as opposed to both directions if the light was upright (the round ball is motion detector).

5.0 out of 5 stars Love 'them, September 27, 2007

I have 6 of these throughout my home and I love them. I tried another type and was not as satisfied as they seem to say on even when the main light source is on. These turn off appropriately. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For., August 22, 2009

Over the past 2-3 years, I have ordered 10 of these night lights, and they have ALL worked flawlessly. This is a very high quality product and worth the high-end price of $12. If you don't like the included "clear" 4-watt bulb, GE's "frosted" 4-watt replacement bulbs are widely available as well. However, these night lights are UL rated at a MAXIMUM of 4-watts, so I would NOT recommend using any of those other higher 7-watt replacement bulbs out there. Anyway, 4-watts is the standard wattage in retail night lights, so these will have no problem lighting up a room or long hallway.

Favorite Features:

1. The full-range motion sensor is incredibly sensitive and consistent.
2. The 60-second timer is MUCH better than other 30-second lights.
3. An additional light sensor prevents false daytime activations.
4. With no obstructions, I get an activation from 10-12 feet away.
5. Nice modern looking design.

What more can you ask for?

This motion sensor night light does the job. It can detect motion from far away and puts out a nice amount of light for those late night trips to the bathroom or fridge. It turns off automatically after 60 seconds.

We've been a huge fan of these GE lights and been using these for over an year. Recently (November, 2009), we ordered 3 more lights only to find that GE replaced the light bulbs with LEDs. Problems with the new set:

1) The light isn't as bright in the darker areas in the house, which is a huge minus.
2) After a couple of days of use, we found that one of the lights stayed on whole night in the master bathroom, even when there was no motion to trigger it.
3) We almost freaked out last night when another piece from this newly ordered lot lit up on its own. It was inside the house on the second floor and there are no rodents that could have triggered it. Needless to say that we searched the whole house at 10 p.m. for any signs of break in.

We simply think that this new generation of lights has not gone through GE's rigorous quality control process and needs some improvements to restore it back to the hall of fame.

We still like these lights (that's why the 4 star rating), but it was a great disappointment to see that GE team didn't weigh all options during the redesign. These new generation lights are recommended for bathrooms and for your kids bedroom, but not for the very dark corridors of your home (area leading to garage, etc.).

I got four of these for my sister as a Christmas present. She is using them in the garage, in bathrooms, and on the front porch. They are excellent for lighting the way when you don't want to turn on (or can't find) the light switch.
