4.0 out of 5 stars Nice product...but one small warning.
If there was a photo of the back of this outlet adapter, you would see that the bottom plug is just a "plastic guide" that slides into the wall for stability purposes, so ALL 6 plugs are powered by the TOP OUTLET ONLY.

3.0 out of 5 stars It functions well but . . .
Pros: I really like the angled side outlets of the 6-Outlet Adapter. The unit functions very well. For these reasons, I purchased a second adapter.

Cons: It does not fit flush with the wall with or without the orignial cover plate in place. I wish it came in an ivory color.

If there was a photo of the back of this outlet adapter, you would see that the bottom plug is just a "plastic guide" that slides into the wall for stability purposes, so ALL 6 plugs are powered by the TOP OUTLET ONLY.

What this means is, that if you plug this adapter into an outlet in which the top half of your outlet is controlled by a light switch, the light switch will turn on and off ALL 6 plugs. Likewise, if your light switch controls the bottom half of your outlet, your light switch will become completely useless since it is only connected to the adapter's plastic guide.

Other than that, these are not only great for neatly fitting many big transformers, but also make small plugs look much more "sleeker" by coming out of the sides and right up against the wall (vs. having all 6 plugs awkwardly sticking straight out).

Someone was thinking, based on experience I presume.
The sockets are separated far enough that you can actually use them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, but here are some facts., July 25, 2011

This item works great. But here are some facts.

- Like other customers have mentioned it only plugs into the top outlet. (That is, if you have your ground wire on the bottom of the outlet, then the top. If your ground wire is above, then it only works with the bottom outlet.) So if one of your outlets is controlled by a light switch, this will affect you.

- This outlet comes with the option to install permanently. For this to work, your outlet must have a center screw hole between the two plugs. This product will still work fine without being installed permanently.

- This product will not work with ground fault outlets. These are the outlets you typically see next to the sink in most bathrooms that have the "reset" and "test" buttons on them. This is because on the back of the Adapter there is a plastic numb that would fit into the bottom ground socket. The spacing is different on the ground fault outlets verses a standard outlet. You could experiment with cutting off the plastic numb, but this will weaken the security of the adapter to the wall. Also, with the ground fault outlet you will not be able to install permanently as mentioned above.

Other then that, this product is as described and works great. Any item that is plugged into this item fits securely into the adapter. If I would have known these facts before I purchased, I would not have bought this item, as I am unable to place the item where I wanted to. But this is still a good item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for charging many small devices from a car inverter, November 9, 2010
This review is from: GE 50759 6-Grounded Outlet In-Wall Adapter, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
As another reviewer noticed, there is only one electrical plug/connection on the wall side of this unit. The second electrical position just has a single plastic post to fit in the ground part of the second outlet to provide extra mechanical stability.

One electrical connection is perfect for my application with my car inverter Cobra CPI 480 400-Watt 12-Volt DC to 120-Volt AC Power Inverter with 5-Volt USB Output and small extension cord 1 ft Outlet Saver Power Extension Cord - NEMA 5-15R to NEMA 5-15P to power multiple devices that need large plug area for the wall hanging transformer; camera battery charger, cell phone charger, AA battery charger, etc. while in the car.

I recently took this product to Australia with one AU wall adapter plug to provide 240V-50Hz to my other US plugged devices that can also run off 240V-50Hz (read product "power" labels so nothing blows up {you only get one chance}).

As another reviewer here said, there is no other product like this, nor as useful. I've purchased more than 10 of these for use in my lab and around the house.

GE also sells one with a built in circuit breaker if you need it to limit current for your outlet.GE 56575 6-Grounded Outlet In-Wall Adapter with Resettable Circuit Breaker, White (Thanks C. Stinnett)

It works but I was very disappointed that it did not screw in tightly. Now its jiggles side to side a little. Would not buy again. And I would spend a few more bucks to get a nicer one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Deeper than I hoped, June 15, 2010

This review is from: GE 50759 6-Grounded Outlet In-Wall Adapter, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
I had planned to use this behind a dresser. The faceplate plugs would not be accessible obviously but the side plugs would be, and I figured this would make the plugs accessible.

Unfortunately the product picture does not give an accurate impression of the depth from the face to the back. It's a little over 1.5 inches. This is much further from the wall than furniture generally goes. They could easily have made the profile less deep, but I guess they were trying to accommodate the fat transformer-style "brick" plugs.

So for splitting a socket or for handling more than one transformer on the same outlet, this seems a decent product. I just wish they'd shaved a little off the depth; a third of an inch would have made a big difference.

3.0 out of 5 stars bulky, September 27, 2010
This review is from: GE 50759 6-Grounded Outlet In-Wall Adapter, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
This unit is a bit bulky to place in many indoor rooms. There are better products for wall hugging and behind furniture. This is best served in a work room or garage or those seasonal occasions like behind a Christmas tree.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than what I could find at local big box hardware stores, September 7, 2011

Added this to an order to give it a shot to replace a 6 outlet adapter I had bought at Lowes and then promptly cracked while screwing into the outlet. The 4 outlets on the angled edges is a cool idea and indeed helps with those 'wall warts.' The plastic is very solid compared to the one it replaced as well as the various other 6 outlet adapters I have around the house. I was also pleased to see that the plastic bushing/ferrule goes all the way from the face to the back so you can really tighten it down without cracking or popping the front face (like I did on my other one).

With the wallplate removed, this stood a little proud of the wall. This bugs me to no end and isn't safe IMO so I had to really crank down the screws on my outlet to sink it deeper into the box, and remove the metal 'ears' from the outlet. After I did this the adapter sat nice and tight against the wall. If I ever choose to go back to a normal 2-outlet receptable I'll probably have to shim the outlet, but no biggy. If we ever rearranged furniture such that this thing was left on an open wall I'm sure I'd have to remove it as it is very bulky looking.

At first (before I ordered) I was not too big on the fact that it only electrically connects to a single outlet (the top one). But a single outlet can safely provide 15A and that's the total load you don't want to exceed among all of the plugs on this thing. So unless you have one of those split outlets where one is switched, I don't think this aspect is a problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars poor design, July 31, 2011

This review is from: GE 50759 6-Grounded Outlet In-Wall Adapter, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have to admit that the price was low, but I found the engineering of the device to be poor. I went to install one of these outlet adapters and as I screwed it into the plate, the screw popped through the device. As it turns out, there is a tube that the screw fits in and it is not well connected to the device. (note: I did NOT use a powered screw-driver!)
The second issue is that there is only one plug on the back. Poor design there, but very cost-effective. I have half of a dozen Brinkman adapters from 10 years ago, and they are built like bricks. Can't find them anymore. I paid $9 for them.
As for the GE product, I returned mine.....
