This review is from: 507TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT: Normandie, Ardennes, Allemagne - A Forgotten Regiment (Hardcover)
Just spent the weekend with the surviving members of the 507th. INCREDIBLE bunch of guys. Actually got to meet Dominique Fracois and another gentleman named Martin Morgan who has put together a documentary of the 507th called "D-Day: Down to Earth-Return of the 507th". You can check it out at www.507th.com. You guys should really check this book out if you get a chance, and keep an eye out for the documentary.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Timeless Tribute to the Courageous 507th, July 24, 2011

This review is from: 507TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT: Normandie, Ardennes, Allemagne - A Forgotten Regiment (Hardcover)
I purchased the book, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, by Dominique Francois, as part of my research in writing my own book, When I Was A Child. My uncle Louis Pfeifer was a member of the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne. My book tells the story of his life up to and after the heroic mission of the 82nd Airborne to be dropped behind enemy lines on D-Day, June 6th, 1944.

The 507th unit of the 82nd Airborne was one of the last to enter the airspace over their drop zones. They received intense ground fire and took heavy casualties. Many of the paratroopers were scattered far and wide of their assigned drop zones. Thus making their mission more than difficult and bordered on impossible. Yet, the courage and training of these men prevailed and in spite of heavy losses due to casualties and captives, they achieved their mission . . . and earned the gratitude of the French people.

That is where this book comes in; written by Dominique Francois, as a tribute to these brave soldiers, in his native French and English. The book is packed with authentic testimony and photographs of the men who were there. It is personal and genuine. It brings the events before and after that historic night to life, and chronicles the extraordinary courage and sacrifice made by these men. It honors them. As it should. This book is essential to anyone who is interested in authentic World War II history.
