GE GFCI Tester from Amazon October 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
The tester seems to work fine although I haven't mis-wired my outlets to all tested configuration to be sure. My beef is with the label on top that tells you how to interpret the 3 Tri-state lights. The label has white, red and yellow circles to indicate conditions. The yellow circles are practically unreadable in artificial light-incandescent and fluorescent, and barely readable in sunlight. I corrected this on mine with a marker. Quality Control anyone?

Esential tool March 5, 2011
I am a Journeyman Electrician and this is one of my favorite gadgets. It quickly verifys proper neutral ground and hot hookup, works as a circuit verifier with the lights (flip breakers till the light goes out). Want to know if that regular socket in the kitchen is tied to the Ground Fault? Plug this in and hit the button, the GFI should trip and as a final selling point it is rugged enough to plug into the socket and use it to straighten the receptical out when you push it in so the plate sits on straight and flush. Wouldn't be without it.

Essential for any toolbox January 8, 2011

This is a cheap essential safety device that everyone should have in their do-it-yourself kit. It tests GFCI's to verify their operation, and instantly indicates if a receptacle is live and if it is correctly wires and grounded.

If you are a do-it-yourselfer who does light electrical work, you need to have one of these, and while we are on the subject - a really good multimeter - I recommend Fluke 179 ESFP True RMS Multimeter with Backlight and Temp that you can trust.

Works good
It showed me the problem with suspected outlet no problem. I dock it one star for
the lousy "map legend" but I found that reading glasses help.
