Fond memory: sitting in the dark in Vernon B.C.'s Capitol Theatre, watching Cliff's new movie, The Young Ones, with soon-to-be girlfriend, Elaine. Now, the young lady had just returned home from Ballet school in London, England. Did she know about Cliff Richard? Duh! Did I chalk points, because I--a 15 year old in this little Okanagan Valley town--also knew who he was and had been digging him since Livin' Doll? Bet your A**!

We all see the oldies through our own rear view mirror. That's one scene in mine. You probably have your mirror, too, and if it's located south of the 49th, that means you probably know Cliff from his looooong-delayed U.S. hit streak, in the late 70s and early 80s. (I was particularly happy for Richard; enjoying multi-million dollar cult status in the U.K. and much of Europe and never, ever given the time of day in the U.S. of A. Oh, he was bitter for a time--I recall reading a "what do I haveta do?" interview before his U.S. streak.)

Which brings me (at last!) to the 50th Anniversary CD set. Wanna see what a lifetime of musical success means ? Click onto Cliff's website and check out the sheer volume of the man's output--and what is displayed there is not definitive.

So, unless you have lots and lots of discretionary CD dollars, then you have to get the most for yer bucks. Nice that the music's all been updated sonically, but here's the kicker: you get arguably his biggest and best from the late '50s to mid-60s (the classic years, to many listeners' ears)--almost half the 50 tracks here. Wow. (If only they had found room for A Girl Like You, and We Say Yeah. Ah, well...) And all of the solo 70s and early 80s stateside hits, which I liked as a (ahem) more mature individual.

this is a must for Cliff Richard fans... he is still my favorite singer from the late 50's to this day... what a showman...

If you are not familiar with Cliff's songs you are in for a treat. I knew of only one song that he had done (all in the game) and always thought what a great clear smooth voice, wonder if he did other cuts? Well, in America, we just didn't know! Then I found he only recorded about 400 more. His slow clear ballads are great especially enhanced through re-mastering but don't dismiss any of his songs, there isn't a dud here.

A longtime fan of Cliff Richard, my sister had worn out the only CD she had of his music. I found myself recognizing titles and knowing that she would enjoy this CD immensely. Needless to say when it arrived at her house she was thrilled. Anothere recipient of Amazon satisfaction.

This album contains almost all of the songs made popular by Cliff, but we all know that it is impossible to put all of his popular songs in one CD. So these songs were the chosen ones. I love playing it.

There's no arguing about Cliff-he's the King as far as I'm concerned. But we're talking here about the CD and my issue with it is the fact that so many of the songs are in mono when there are stereo versions available. It's true mono was popular and actually was the only mode available to most enthusiasts at that time so maybe to please those who want to hear some CLIFF songs the way they heard them at that time, three or four would have been fine but no more that. After all, people spend money on their gear to hear songs in stereo, not in mono. To me, it's just another ploy by EMI to make Cliff fans keep buying CD's until they complete their collection of Cliff songs in stereo.

This two CD set covers the fifty years of Cliff's life in music.
It encompasses his early hits on disc 1, many of which i hadn't heard for years. It's so good to hear these oldies with the Shadows backing. Disc 2 covers more recent releases and shows well the diversity of Cliff's musical talents.
This is a terrific addition to my music library and one I recommend highly to those who enjoy Cliff.

My husband and I both enjoy listening to this CD when we travel into town - an hour away. Some really great songs on this album. We love Cliff Richard and this was NO disappointment in the purchase department. It was priced nicely, as well.
