4.0 out of 5 stars Great Concept, remote could be better
I have used this outlet switch for 4 years in my remote outbuilding. The receiver has performed flawlessly. The remote, not so much. I carry the remote in a front jean pocket and it attracts lint and dust/dirt inside the unit. After a period of time, the inside of the remote becomes so full of "stuff" that either the battery doesn't make contact inside the remote or...

3.0 out of 5 stars Works some what?
The GE 51135 works but abuot thirty-five feet is about the maximum transmitting distance I could get. The 8 different channels work well.

it sucks. i rarely need this but when i do i want it to simply work. the first time i setup a system using this the remote just wouldn't activate the receiver despite repeated ok testing beforehand. the second time i gave it another chance in a live situation it turned the unit on but then wouldn't turn it off which was a huge issue. and finally now the third time i gave it a chance in a different setup it wouldn't turn the unit on at all. i got right next to it half the time i pushed it it would work and half the times it wouldn't. then after about 5 cycles it again turned it on but then wouldn't turn it off. totally unreliable.

I purchased five of these units. Tried two of them to turn a light source on and off - didn't work reliably. Had to throw them all away and buy a different brand. Would not recommend this to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Concept, remote could be better, November 15, 2010

I have used this outlet switch for 4 years in my remote outbuilding. The receiver has performed flawlessly. The remote, not so much. I carry the remote in a front jean pocket and it attracts lint and dust/dirt inside the unit. After a period of time, the inside of the remote becomes so full of "stuff" that either the battery doesn't make contact inside the remote or the switch is unable to make contact when pressed. The keychain connector is very thin plastic and it broke after about a year of carryiing.

Make the remote more sturdy and better sealed, and this would get "6 STARS" from me!!

5.0 out of 5 stars GE 51135 Indoor Outlet Receiver/Remote, September 27, 2010

This is a great device. It allows me to control a specific light without shutting down a larger bank of lights on the same circut. I like the dial on the remote that allows 8 different control points.

It might be a good idea to keep an extra battery around, as a 23AE/12volt is not as easy to locate as a double-A.

One thing: It wasn't clear to me if the receivers were sold separately. (I don't need eight remotes.) If that is possible, I'm getting more.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible, November 26, 2011
This review is from: GE 51135 Indoor Outlet Receiver with Keychain Remote (Tools & Hardware)
This remote control is horrible!!!

I bought one last month, I felt so happy at first because it really worked good. but horrible things happened after I bought the second one. I selected channel2 for my second remote and receiver, but it didn't work. Then I selected channel3 for my remote and receiver, didn't work again! Then I realized that only channel1 and channel8 could work, but when I use my older remote which has been set at channel1, I found that it can also turn on my second receiver which has been set at channel8! Later I found that with a remote which has been set to channel1, can turn on any receivers in any channel.

I hope I can give zero star because it is totally useless if you use more than one. I found that the only way to solve this problem is select different "HOUSE CODE". Horrible!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Power at a distance, December 26, 2009

This was a replacement for the same device. The first served through three years of being activated at least five times a day. It is used to power on a microscope that is suspended from the ceiling. Since the power toggle is out of reach it allows us to turn it on and off remotely. A genuine time saver.
