I bought this because I already had several of the receiving modules. I managed to get the system to work. Four of the individual channel switches worked when i pressed them with the pads of my fingers. The other four channels required that i press with the fingernail. Channel four would only shut off using the master control switch which sequentially will turn off (or on) all of the channels.

The display must be viewed from above, otherwise everything shows up. All channels appear to be on, the battery is low, the time is 88:88:88, etc.

The package came with two receivers. One of the receivers only received on channel 1 even when it was set to 2-8 . Naturally I used this for my first channel. The other receiver worked on channels 1-7. When set to channel 8 it could only be activated through channel 7.

I had one of these master units about 8 years ago and it went through batteries quickly. The unit comes with an AC adaptor. My older unit also had trouble activating the receivers so I tossed it years ago. The new unit works much better. I am currently using it with 5 channels and plan to add two more. One of the receivers is 35 feet away and the signal has to pass through 2 walls. It works.

If I had not had five receiving modules, this kit would have been returned. I don't recommend purchasing it.

I also bought the "GE 51137 Switch Kit, 3 Piece Wall Ceiling Light with Socket Adaptor-Wall Mount" from Amazon. This worked well but I don't know what they consider to be the third piece. I ordered three of the wall mount transmitters directly from Smarthome.

1.0 out of 5 stars So far it doesn't work, January 21, 2010

This product is a great idea but fails in execution. I've now tried several times to set it up but can't get the base unit to communicate with the satellite timers. I'll keep trying but it shouldn't be so hard.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy, February 4, 2011

I bought 2 of these kits. The first one worked but the rocker switches used to turn the lights on and off were really hard to press and get to work reliably. But I liked the way it worked so I bought another one (bad idea). The second kit was worse and even harder to turn on and off. Plus 2 of the receivers on the second kit didn't work at all. I threw both kits away and bought the Hunter kit.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cool idea, but cheap & silly design flaws make it unusable., February 20, 2011
This review is from: GE 51151 Home Lighting Control Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Pros: This really is a great idea, and when checking around, you can find the whole kit for about $20.
Setup was easy.

Cons: For additional receivers, it can get pricey really fast.
Setup really was quite easy, but what's the use of easy setup when the product doesn't work as it should have?
My kit came with a defective receiver which wouldn't work on any channels. It was brand new.
There are no holes on the back to hang the controller on a wall.
It is cheaply made. The receivers popped apart with nothing but my hands.
Even if it is plugged into the wall, it STILL needs batteries to operate the devices.
It's not "really" a GE device and there is no online support still in existence. When you go to their support site, it redirects you to Jasco Products Company, and tells you that the site no longer exists.

This is really too bad. The idea is so cool and could really save a lot of energy. I had to send it back because $20 was too much to pay for just one battery-hogging timer. Additional receivers are just too expensive.
