Nothing special,
By N. Durham "Big Evil" (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: 52 Aftermath: The Four Horsemen (DC Comics) (Paperback)
52 Aftermath: The Four Horsemen has some potential. Namely the fact that it is written by the great Keith Giffen, whose penchant for witty dialogue is on pretty decent display here, but there's nothing about The Four Horsemen that is remotely compelling. In the aftermath of 52, the demonic Four Horsemen are free and looking to wreak more havoc, and standing in their way are the big three of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Sadly though, there isn't anything that really develops besides some fights, and the story as a whole is just a bore. There was much potential here to be sure, but Giffen wasn't given a lot to really work with here either. Pat Olliffe's artwork doesn't fare much better here either and is inconsistent, looking pretty decent in some spots and then looking cruddy in others. All in all, 52 Aftermath: The Four Horsemen takes one of the most compelling elements of 52 and turns it into a sad bore, and while this may be worth a look for fans of 52, all others can easily avoid this.

boring,

I picked up this tpb because I really enjoyed 52 and not unreasonably thought this would be a cool follow up. Forget it. This series ignores everything that was fun about Oolong Island and the Four Horsemen in favor of a Veronica Cale story, a very minor character in 52. Who cares about Veronica Cale? I bought this book for Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman. All in all, there a few nice bits of dialogue here and there, but its not enough to save this story. Its just boring.

More often than not, DC falls short in its stories, but not with 52 and the stories leading up to it. I picked this up because I really enjoyed 52 and all connected with it, but the series fell short. It had potential but just ended up being dull and mediocre.

Enjoyable but confusing big fight story,

This review is from: 52 Aftermath: The Four Horsemen (DC Comics) (Paperback)
This volume reprints DC Comics' "52 Aftermath: The Four Horsemen" issues 1-6, from 2007/8. It is not a stand-alone story, as there is a lot of back-story, which developed during the `52' event. The Four Horsemen apparently were created and destroyed during that event, and they are now being resurrected for no good reason. Coincidentally (?), Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne are on hand as the crisis (with a small `c') develops, Snapper Carr, agent of Checkmate, and Wonder Woman pop up, a place called Oolong Island - populated by mad scientists and the original (!) Doom Patrol - is involved, as apparently they were involved in the original creation of the Horsemen - who are from or involved with Apokolips. There is a big fight involving all and sundry, and everything is wrapped up, with the appropriate loose end for further plot development. If you were a follower of `52', or like Superman / Batman / Wonder Woman team-ups, then you will find this enjoyable - especially as it is written by Keith Giffen, who takes (took) Oolong Island over into his subsequent Doom Patrol series. If not, then you may still find it entertaining, but probably just confusing.

You know how sometimes you read a story and when its done you think you want a little more, that it would enhance your life? Well if that's what you're expecting from this, think again. It was cool to have Batman, Superman and Wonderwoman back on the scene, however, the story itself was poo. Literal poo!! Its so bad that I don't even care if I get this book back from the friend i loaned it to. Maybe I expected more because of the awesomeness of 52. Compared to that, it doesn't measure up. If you are interested in the story, borrow it from someone or check it out from the library. Its only good enough to buy if you want to have everything 52 related

This review is from: 52 Aftermath: The Four Horsemen (DC Comics) (Paperback)
Yeah it sounds great and even looks great.......but it just speeds into the the lame corridor. i felt hurried and so weak.....i bought it to keep all the players straight in the Crisis series.....Buy it for Crisis continuity don't buy it for story and art.
