4.0 out of 5 stars A good starting point for adventures in Michigan., October 13, 2003

While this book may offer "something for everyone," it may not be anyone's favorite. The writing is good, making all of the chapters interesting to read. I like the way the chapters are split up into sections corresponding to the best season for each activity. But I think the book should have contained just plain more options! For instance, if you are not the athletic, outdoorsy type, you won't find much to do in Michigan in the winter, according to this book (it lists lugeing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, ice fishing, Nordic skiing, and snowshoeing as winter activities, but little else). For those cold snowy months, why not include a selection of indoor museums? Likewise, several of the activities in the "fall" section are only available until mid-October. What is a person do to between Halloween and January? Two of the chapters actually describe things to do in Canada (albeit just across the river) and aren't really applicable to Michigan at all.

Overall, I think the book does a good job of summarizing the wide variety of activities available throughout the year in Michigan, and the author makes an effort to showcase things suitable for families with children. However, you are going to need more than this volume if you want to spend more than a few days exploring the State.
