First, I should admit, I'm not really a fan of Elsie Flannigan's style of scrapbooking. I've liked a few of her products from KI Memories but her layouts in general are too busy and random for my taste.

That said, when I got my hands on her book I was pleasantly surprised at what I found inside.

Of course, the book is chock-full of Elsie's layouts. So if you are a fan of her style you will love the book. But even if you aren't, there are some beautiful layouts to be inspired by from the other scrapbookers who contributed to the book who have very different styles.

And the basic nuts and bolts of this book, at its core, is the list of challenges itself. They provide great starting points for layouts, and a few of them are even whole project inspiration. I've never been interested in starting an inspiration journal until I saw Challenge #25 on page 64. After seeing that journal I could easily envision its usefulness! Add that to the to-do list...

This book would be a fun way to help get past "scrapper's block" by providing a starting point for designing a page, or could provide a great list of activities for a cropping group to play with together.

I know that Elsie's style is kind of a love-it-or-hate-it kind of thing for most people. Don't let that turn you off of what is actually a pretty inspiring book if you look past that.

I loved Elsie's book. Her scrapbooking style is very unique and fresh. I love how she focuses on one heartfelt theme. I am inspired to use one photo and tell a story from the heart. She is not afraid to embellish her thoughts over or onto the edges of her photo and I like this style as well. The book is just packed with great challenges.

I loved this book. I had never really noticed Elsie's stuff before and then this book came out. Jammed full of an incredibly fresh approach to scrapbooking, from my first glance it hit me like a bucket of cold water. Hand draw those lines, cut things out free-hand, doodle around the edge or on top of the photos, be as free and expressive as you remember being once upon a time when the rules were not very important and the thing you focused on was enjoying the process. i have spend many years scrapbooking to show my friends or family or future family... but this was so much eaasier, this was the most stress-free and enjoyable scrapbooking inspiration i have ever encountered.

This was a good book with many creative challenges at first. As you get more into the book though they become somewhat repetitive and then will pick up again here and there. Still a great book but it wasn't all I was expecting with the rave about it.

I just bought this book last night and stayed up until almost 2:00 in the morning poring over every page. I think it's a delight! I never buy "scrapbooking books", but this one is different. I really don't like books that have "layouts" and "color-combos" and carefully crafted "computerized" pages. That's just not me. If that IS you, YOU probably WON'T like this book. This is NOT your "cookie-cutter" scrapbooking book.

What this book IS, is a tall, refreshing glass of "creative juice" for those who thirst! Quirky and fresh, this book will get you ready to create (and not just scrapbook pages!). If you like mixed media, candy store bits and bobs, and just the flotsam and jetsam of the everyday, this book is for YOU!

This book will inspire you to pick up your favorite technical pen and start journaling. It will move you to pick up all those little scraps in the bottom of your paper bin and do something creative with them. You will have your scissors out in no time, cutting bits and bobs and snippets of this and that to create a totally YOUnique page.

If you are an artist, like myself, it's a trip to the corner eye-candy store, and you get to treat yourself until you are stuffed! I especially liked the sections on creating your own ribbon and painting your own papers. I'm a "do-it-yourself" kind of gal and these are some of the things that I have been doing all along! It's so refreshing to see a different perspective on scrapbooking (finally)!

This book offers a diving board for you to jump into the pool of possibilities. Other books just give you ideas to copy. I hate that. This one urges you to create "pages" that are personal and quirky. Elsie reminds me of scrapbooking Sabrina Ward Harrison type in her early years!

Although I'm finding some of the sample pages a little "far out" from my style, I am totally enjoying the weekly challenges. Just think a whole year of scrapbooking ideas!!! The book is really motivating me to scrapbook outside my comfort zone.
