4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the price......
I went to another web site to look for a cheap replacement for my Sharp 5000 BTU air conditioner which finally gave out after 14 years of faithful service because I needed one immediately and in my neighborhood. I really wanted another Sharp: (of course), and would have gladly paid $200. or so. Unfortunately none of my searches for an immediately available Sharp or Quasar...

1.0 out of 5 stars not a good option
I bought this unit in 2007. It worked for two years (2007, 2008) and when I wanted to turn it on for the first time in 2009 it gave no reaction to the remote..

The big problem of it design is, the remote is the only way to switch the cooling on, or to modify the speed of the fan..

I have no way to figure out if the remote is broken, or the unit...

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the price......, August 17, 2008

I went to another web site to look for a cheap replacement for my Sharp 5000 BTU air conditioner which finally gave out after 14 years of faithful service because I needed one immediately and in my neighborhood. I really wanted another Sharp: (of course), and would have gladly paid $200. or so. Unfortunately none of my searches for an immediately available Sharp or Quasar were succesful. I actually settled for a Haier 5000 BTU that was listed for $89.99, however when I arrived at their store, this 5200 BTU was the only model available in stock. It came with a remote control, rated at 5200 BTU, with a 9.7 EER. It was marked at $99.99, but since I really wanted the $89.99 model they advertised on line, I was able to buy it for $96.99 plus of course the exorbitant NYC sales tax. All in all my total price was $105.11 plus the $5. tip to their associate for carrying out, and loading it into a cab. I have no idea of the durability of this model, but judging from its' shoddy appearance, I'm not too confident. Suffice to say installation was a breeze, although I was sweat drenched (due to high humidity, not difficulty of installation) by the time I finished installing it in my 7' by 12' dormitory type room. (Don't laugh - the rent is unbelievably cheap for NYC) It wasn't that hot today, but the humidity was high, yet the unit only took a little over a half hour to cool my humble abode to a comfortable 70 degrees - from 81, already displayed on unit itself, when it started up. A note of caution: The only way to adjust temperature, or even to set it from fan to cool is via the remote control!! The only thing possible on the unit itself, is to put it on and off FAN only! I will be highly disturbed if I misplace, or (God forbid, break) the remote control. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of installation, its' quietness, and quick cooling. The price was right, and it has a 1 year general warranty, with 5 years on cooling system! You not only get what you pay for with this model, but a lot more.

Retarded design! Not recommended

1.0 out of 5 stars If the remote breaks its useless, May 27, 2011
This review is from: 5200 BTU Wall AC Unit
Bought this unit 2 years ago. Worked great till we tried it this year and it would not respond to the remote. The remote is the only way to operate the air conditioner!! you can hit the power button on the unit but that just turns on the fan. Without the remote is just blows hot air. I'm assuming there is a problem with the remote control. however to buy a new control runs anywhere between $30 and $54 dollars. The unit cost less than a $100. Stay away from this because that is just a poor design.

1.0 out of 5 stars NIGHTMARE!!, December 31, 2008
This review is from: 5200 BTU Wall AC Unit
AVOID THIS COMPANY!! My unit arrived broken. Haier customer service was rude & obnoxious. They were completely unapologetic & seemed to go out of their way to be UNHELPFUL. When I finally bullied them into action, they wanted a full week to send out a service man who may or may not have been able to fix it. I spoke to both customer service and corporate, both were extremely rude and entirely useless. What's more, neither one had the decency to so much as apologize. NEVER AGAIN.
This was every internet buyer's nightmare!

I'm the unfortunate owner of two of these units. They cooled adequately, but I expected them to last more than 6 months.
