description of item correction,

The Amazon reviewer probably took his/her copy from another web site (e.g. on an OfficeDepot web site page this item was also incorrectly described, the text is identical). A more expensive GE model ($35) has exactly the same text description so that is where the error occured.
It is true that this unit has no motion detection etc, it is a simple power failure light that powers on when the main power goes out. It is also a useful nightlight with a very useful red "O" ring that could guide you to the bathroom etc without switching on larger lights. I have one of these in about 25% of my home outlets, at least one in each room. I am in Florida, we get hurricanes and storms so often have power outages. These little items are great and double at flashlights. They have 2 AA rechargeable batteries inside which are replaceable. I recommend these for the price and indeed give them as gifts to family and friends. For the small price, c $10-15, they are a good backup when power goes out.

Batteries not included!,

Received the product and realized that the description FAILS to mention that you have to insert your own batteries for the unit to function as a flashlight! There are a number of other products that have rechargeable batteries and are much more practical. Furthermore, the nightlight brightness is so faint that it fails to provide any useful illumination.

The power often goes off during storms, very unexpectedly too. Since I'm in a wheelchair, it can be very scary if I can't see what's going on. This little gem does beautifully I want our Housing Authority to put one in each of our Senior Housing units.

Though it isn't clear from the product description, this is a very weak nightlight - the electroluminescent kind, set in the handle of an ordinary flashlight that doesn't recharge. It also doesn't come with batteries.
Really worthless at this price and in comparison to the many LED built-in rechargable models out there. |
