I learned the hard way about the need for lens protection. I also learned the overall value of a good filter. There are now many good brands available to a photographer - personally I have opted, when I am able, for the B+W product. Just holding it in one's hand relays a sense of confidence - a well made, strong filter that will both protect and not interfere with color management. As I have often told young aspiring photo enthusiasts - would you rather spend $75 on a good filter or $750 on a new lens?

Yes, these filters may seem quite pricy. On the other hand, I just spent 50.- for a professional service to remove my old UV filter on my most precious lens yesterday. It was cheap, bent out of shape and there was no way to remove it for me following all sorts of recipes. They had to destroy the filter and re-thread the lens.

So there is a lot of value in a quality rim. And the filter itself - It really takes a second hard look to see there is actually glass inside the rim! Virtually invisible.

I put this filter on my 24-70mm EF L version 1 and have used it for less than a month. No visible flares or reflections from the glass. Not sure if it's worth buying such an expensive filter, but since I have three L lenses at 77mm ring threads, I might as well have one good filter that I could change over to the other lenses if need. Although everyone tells me to keep it on and never take it off. I mainly shoot indoor, portraits and events. So no real shooting straight at the sun or anything like that.

I have a Pentax K-30 Camera, and just purchased the Pentax DA 50-200mm WR lens. I was looking for a good filter to protect my new lens. The 49mm B&W Filter screwed right on perfectly, and my lens cap goes right on to this just great. So far it seems it is easy to keep clean, and I have not noticed any smudging. To me the picture quality seems the same indoors, and I am hoping with the UV Haze protection it will help with my outdoor shots. I just ordered the 52mm filter to protect my Pentax 18-55mm lens.

D5300 + 85mm G Nikon + 18-35mm Sigma.
67 mm and 72 mm filters.
No vignetting.
I did some non extensive tests and the images look the same to my eyes. The histograms are a little different but...
Liquids glide on the surface, the dust can be easily removed with an air blaster (I use this one: Giottos AA1910), grease stays on the glass but can be easily removed using microfiber cleaning cloths and some optic cleaner.
Metal, perfect fit, the caps are staying firmly on the filters.

B+W filters are simply the best. If you have to ask why, you clearly haven't held one in your hand. The difference in the physical weight, materials and craftsmanship are simply obvious vs. all the rest when you pick one up. Go to a local camera store and ask to hold one. You'll understand. The optical quality is excellent as well. It also won't bind up/you won't ruin the threads while putting it on your camera (something that has happened with other brands, even with the gentlest of thread pressure.

I have used B+W filters on my large format camera lenses for years and years. I pay thousands and thousands of dollars to get the very sharpest lenses possible. Why would I ever use, or even consider using, a filter with glass that is less than that quality? Every piece of glass you put in front of your lens elements degrades the image by that much. Cheap filters don't even make sense. I will not compromise on what goes on the front of the lens. Sure they're expensive but they're also better.

Filter fit properly to my Canon 70-300L 4.0-5.6 IS USM lens. This UV filter is substantially less reflective than the "free" UV filter that came with the seller's "kit." That means more light gets through the filter as opposed to being reflected off of it. When you look through this filter before you attach it to the lens, it doesn't look like you are looking through anything. I may just go ahead and order this brand and model of filter to replace the UV filters on my other lenses.
