This lens hood is advertised as if it was for the Nikkor 18-55mm lens, and that's not exactly true. It noticeable decreases the flaring caused by the sun, but if you try to shoot at 18~23mm the hood gets in the way (see my product related images), so if you're planning to buy this hood have in mind that the minimum zoom that you'll be able to use in order to keep the lens hood out of the way is 24mm, that's the reason why I rate this hood with 3 stars.

The build quality of the hood is ok, as well as the looks. It fits nicely and has an adjustable ring.

If it wasn't for the fact that you must sacrifice the 18-23mm range in order to have clean shots I would have rate it with 5 stars.

I also have a Canon DSLR and the lens hood works great, because when you zoom and focus, the lens doesn't spin. On the Nikon kit lens it spins when you focus. This causes the lens hood to come in and out of your shot on the sides. The top and bottom are flared more, but if the higher flares spin to the sides, it shows in your shot. Maybe it's just lens specific... not sure. But for videography using the kit lens, this won't work.

You CAN adjust the hood manually so it may work for photography if you have time to make the adjustments, but this will not work well for on-the-fly focusing.

The tulip lens hood should not be used for the Nikon 18-55mm lens. This particular lens rotates as you focus where the hood attaches to. Therefore, you will need a lens hood that is not pedal but instead the same length all the way around. If you're ok with constantly adjusting the lens hood, then go for it.

Didn't arrive from China in the 3 weeks it was suppose to, but I'm glad it didn't since it wouldn't have worked anyways. It would have twisted with the lens focusing which means its garbage for use on the kit lens for 18-55 Nikon lens before the change in '14(which i dont believe would work with this either). Its unbelievable this is marketed at customers with that lens.

This product is worth the 97 cents I paid for it. The fact it has a slack ring to position it correctly on the lens was pain enough for me. When you have the zoom at the most minimal point (18mm), I still catch the edges of this hood and have to crop them out. I avoid it when zoomed 20-25mm. All in all, it could definitely be worse, but it's far from top of the line.

Not the right size.

Didn't bother returning it because the cost was so low it's not worth the trouble, but don't waste your money.

Would rather this could accommodate the Nikon lens cap after install. Otherwise, I guess it'll do what I need it to do. Mainly provide something for me to attach rain cover to.

This was difficult to thread onto my Nikon lense and the locking nut is flimsy. I am not impressed with the quality.

THIS ITEM IS CHEAP LOOKING PRODUCT THAT DOESN'T FIT PROPERLY ON THE CAMERA. I'D LOOK FOR SOMETHING ORIGINAL OR TRUSTY BRAND. DON'T GO FOR CHEAP LIKE I DID AND GOT CHEAP STUFF.
