Excellent hard bop in the Jimmy Bruno/Mark Elf sphere. The trio plays with a verve as if it was discovering new relevations and seredipities in the classic Montgomery/Farlow form. It is surprising that up to now, no one has taken the time to review this absolutely engaging opus. Of particular note are "Bohemia after Dark", "Stompin at the Savoy", and an easy take of the standard "You don't know what Love is". This is classic guitar jazz that makes one jump for the re-play button. I will certainly check out his other work after hearing this.

I don't often get to New York, only once actually. Australian is such a long way away. When I did visit I went to the Village Vanguard to hear Ron Affif. I just had to visit the Vanguard and he was the only one on at the time. Since I listened, as one of the few in the audience, and only a ten feet away, I became a fan. This CD is smooth and sweet. What more can I say. Ron is a musician's musician. Enjoy.

I saw this guy years ago in New York and was blown away by him and his playing. It may have been due to the jet lag, the beers and his mesmerising drummer who seemed as if he was looking into my soul every time he glanced at me, but I'm sure on listening to this album that it is because he is an outstanding musician. This album is reminiscent of Wes Montgomery in places (which is a high compliment indeed) and Ron's technical playing is faultless without any loss of feeling. If you like Jazz, and especially Wes and the likes of early George Benson then this is definitely for you.

This is my first Affif purchase. I heard him on Bob Parloccia's(sp?) show and it took me the longest time to figure out what and how his last name is spelled. Spears is enunciated and not hard to find. If what you desire is heartfelt virtiousity buy this record. This guy can play --from originals to standards he, and the incredible backing bass and drum, can do it all. This is what people are missing in their lives. If I could play guitar, and I can't, I would play like Ron Affif.
