Great Laser Pointer - Fantastic Deal,

This is an absolutely great laser pointer, and an incredible deal. Over the last month I had bought a couple of different traditional red laser pointers at local stores. One was about $7, and stopped working within 10 seconds of trying it out. The second one was $20, and started giving me problems within a few days as well. This laser pointer, however, is of truly world class quality. It's made of metal and has a real heft to it. The button feels solid, and it comes in a nice case. Best of all is it's a green laser pointer, which for those who haven't tried them are far brighter than their red cousins. It's bright enough that you can actually see the beam it makes in the dark. (Although it helps to view it from the right angle). This is by far the best laser pointer I have ever used, and at the incredible low price these are going for, you just can't go wrong with it.

My luck is not as good as other reviewers so far. I received the product yesterday and used it for my presentation. It worked great at the beginning but the good time only lasted for about 15 minutes. It went out thereafter and did not come back. The battery is new, so the problem must be the product. I am contacting the seller to have a replacement and will share my experience with new buyers.
About 2 weeks later: The seller is good. I sent an email to request a replacement because the first one only worked for about 15 minutes. It seems that they process email somewhat slow. So I called them, once got through, someone took my call and she was friendly. She sent instructions for the replacement via email. But I met a small problem with the process so called them again. Once again, the phone was easy to get through and a gentleman took my call. He solved the problem easily and the replaced item came in the third day after the call. The new one is working excellent now. Although it took me some extra time to do the replacement, because I finally got the desired product and the people I called were friendly, it is a good experience. I would like to rate 5 stars now if the stars could be edited. About 5 months later: The new one worked for about 5 months (absolutely not heavily used). Now, there is a problem with the switch. The laser may either not be able to turn off (you can certainly take out the battery to turn it off) or not be able to turn it on. So, there is not use any more. The manufacture really need to do a better job on quality control. I still appreciate the vendor's friendliness but will not spend time to contact them.

Worked for about 5 mins after getting it, then stopped. Actually, "faded" would be more accurate. Replaced the batteries, and it worked for a while (10 mins), then stopped. Replaced the batteries, again. This time, the laser didn't turn on. Looking down the barrel (at an angle, mind you), I can see a faint red glow. Shaking, waiting, changing the batteries, and playing around with the switch, might get it to work, but not for long. I've since went back through the garbage and pulled out the batteries which I thought were bad, all measuring between 1.4 - 1.5 volts.

1. This is a 5mW green lazer.
2. If you cant get it to work dont worry you are not alone. After spending 20 minutes on it i figured out that the internal spring was not extended enough to make contact with the battery. SO all i did was pull the spring and it started working but the sad part was that it is very very weak. 3. I would suggest spend some more and get a lazer with a higher power rating of 20mW or more. This is weak. It works but you wont like it. 4. The size is big, i mean it is close to 6 1/2 inches long and a standard pen is like 5 1/2 so it is difficult to carry in the shirt pocket.

Awesome laser pointer,
This review is from: 5mw 532nm Astronomy Powerful Green Laser Pointer - Silver (Electronics)
This green laser pointer is better than I expected. It has a nice metal casing that gives some weight to it. Does not feel the least bit cheap like some other laser pointers I've used. The green color is amazingly bright and strong. I've gotten a dozen compliments on it so far...in fact, everyone during our conferences want to use it. I have to keep an eye on it before it walks away in someone's pocket. The delivery was also very quick. If I ever need another laser pointer, I would get the exact same one.

My son received this laser pointer two days ago but already is having problems with the light fading. We changed the batteries, which should not be necessary after only two days, but the light still flakes out. I do not recommend this item.

I have seen other reviewers with the same problem as me. I was embarrassed to give this as a present and then find out that it didn't work... We tested the batteries and reversed the polarity to no avail (No instructions included on which direction to load the batteries). I was about to send it back, but decided to try it with different batteries...and voila! It worked...at first, then it got shaky, especially after swapping out the included batteries and putting the good ones back in. Turned out I had to stretch the spring out so it would make a solid closed circuit. Now it works all the time and never fades in and out. But I never got the original batteries to work - they registered over 1.5 volts under load, so I assume it's the shape of the batteries rather than the available power.
So 2 stars for poor Quality Control, poor design, poor choice of included batteries and all the difficulties that caused. However, I'd give the LASER itself 5 stars for it's brilliance and the low price. It's true that you can see the beam reflecting of dust and/or mist outside.

I do not know how this product performs as a laser, because I cannot get it to work. The laser takes two AAA-batteries. However, inside one half of the battery compartment, there is a metal ring that just prevents the removal of the batteries. I naively used the cheap AAA batteries that came with the unit, and they did not function. Now I cannot remove them, due to this insane design flaw. There are other similar lasers available through Amazon, perhaps it may be wise to consider those alternatives. I am sending this badly designed unit back.

DIM LASER POINTER,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 5mw 532nm Astronomy Powerful Green Laser Pointer - Silver (Electronics)
I must have received a bad one. This green laser pointer had a dim green dot. I tried new batteris but it did not change it. I have 2 other green laser pointers and this one is about 1/10 of the power of them, even though they have the same specs. My red laser pointer is brighter than this one. I was going to exchange it so I pulled up the order and Selected "problem with this order". Amazon only allows refunds on this item, no exchanges. I printed out the free return shipping label and will send it back in the same shipping carton that it came in. You do not have to select anything special when ordering to receive the free flashlight combo, it is included. I think this would be a great deal if you get on that works good.

DJAA (dead just after arrival),
By theDrow (Tucson, AZ) - See all my reviews

As soon as I received the item, I took it out to play with it. I mean test it. I put in the batteries and fired it up. It worked, though the beam was more intense than I had expected. I could handle that though. I had my cat help me test it as well, and as I was doing that, I noticed that some times when I pressed the button, the beam would be very weak, and slowly grow more intense (though, seemingly, not up to the initial intensity). I also noticed that it was making a sound as if something metal was loose. I checked the back tube (where the batteries go) but everything in there seemed good. Soon though, it did not function at all. (this is within minutes of my receiving it, and all I had done was insert the batteries and wave it around a bit -- nothing that wouldn't be routine use). Thinking that I might simply have received bad batteries with it, I replaced them, but to no avail -- the laser pointer did not function at all.
I may return it, but probably not, since the return shipping will be almost half what I paid for it anyway, and I am not guaranteed to get a full refund. I'll just order a different one and hope for the best. |
