2.0 out of 5 stars Loose fit
I do not recommend this item due to it's poor workmenship. It worked fine when I first put it in, but it was a very loose fit. When I took it off to try to adjust it, I could not get the screw back out because the screw sheath had broken free from the housing. I can not get the screw out or reinstall it because the plastic piece is in the way. So it is useless to me. A...

This review is from: GE 54946 6-Grounded Outlet In-Wall Adapter, Ivory (Tools & Home Improvement)
We actually have a use for this as a temporary outlet multiplier, in the back of the house. Our 2-outlet plate is not sufficient whenever we organize a night pool party. We need the ability to plug in one or two coffee makers, a cheap boom box, a powered cooler. Under such circumstances we found this wall adapter as an acceptable solution. In the winter, it helps reduce some cable clutter in the front of the house for several strings of Christmas lights.

It will fully cover a 2-outlet face, meaning that you gain 4 outlets.

The major problem with this device is its lack of surge protection. It should be okay with appliances that are either resilient enough to be fully protected by the house's own circuit breakers, cheap enough not to be a major worry or don't include expensive electronics. Besides the uses that I mentioned I am thinking small kitchens, maybe basements.

For anything else, I would invest a few extra dollars on a safer alternative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Handy!, November 27, 2009
By

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Our house has 2-plug electric outlets in every room and most of the rooms have multiple 2-plug outlets. Well, some 2-plug outlets are used a lot and some aren't. We have about four places in the house where we're always looking for plug-in space so we got a couple 6-plug outlet adapters. The first we tried simply plugged into the existing wall 2-plug outlet and fitted on top of the existing wall plate. They worked all right, but when you tried to pull out some hard-to-pull plugs the wall 6-plug outlet adapter itself would come out of the wall. This just wouldn't do. Next we picked up a couple of these 6-plug adapters that required the removal of the original wall plate. Then the adapter was plugged into the 2-plug wall outlet (sans wall plate) and was screwed into the wall socket as was the original wall plate. This worked much better and we've had no trouble with it since that time.

Now several of our rooms have adequate outlets and we're considering adding several more of these 6-plug adapters in a couple other rooms. Real handy devices! If you use these six-plug adapters, keep in mind that the amperage of the outlet itself is not increased to compensate for the extra plug-in spaces. Be careful that you don't plug too many heavy-duty appliances into the one outlet or you may trip the circuit breaker. The six-plug outlet will take a full load of lights, radios, small fans and things of that sort without any problem. If I plug a vacuum cleaner in, or something like that, I just make certain that other heavy duty things are turned off at the time.

This is a simple product that expands a two socket wall electrical outlet into a four socket outlet. It is grounded and is not a surge suppressor.

It fits snugly into the wall, so won't come out too easily when you don't want it to (such as when unplugging something from it). If you're looking to plug a lot of bulky AC/DC adapters into it, I would advise checking out another solution that is designed to provide more space. Otherwise, your adapters could be blocking out most of the gained outlets in this plate.

I bought these for about one solid large fancy latte, each and wouldn't hesitate to buy more if I have a need for them.

For the price, this does exactly as I would like. I like how it has the screw through the center to hold it in place securely. You just remove the existing screw from the outlet cover and plug the wall adapter in, then screw in the supplied screw. There's no surge protection, but at least it's grounded. I use it at the outlet near my bed for my lamp, alarm clock, cell phone charger, etc. Little stuff that doesn't really need surge protection like a computer or a nice television

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Negative to Say, January 23, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This product is so under rated for the price you pay. I thought it wouldn't meet expectations but it further exceeded them. This is a sturdy device and make sure you take off the plate that is already on the wall so that you can actually screw this one onto the wall, instead of just being connected.

I currently have a phone charger, Ipod Dock, lamp, and TV connected to it at the same time and no problems nor power outages.

Definitely recommend this product to anyone. And once again Amazon LLC always wins!!!
Hope this helps.

4.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN!!!!, January 20, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: GE 54946 6-Grounded Outlet In-Wall Adapter, Ivory (Tools & Home Improvement)
Ok, this product arrived within 2 days... Thank you, Amazon Prime. I went to 'install' it and when I was tightening the screw, I snapped the internal screw 'catch.' I am not sure what to call the 'catch.' Typically, when you are tightening a screw, you feel more tension as you are close to the fully tightening point of that screw, but on this product, you will not. Therefore, I warn, be careful. That being said, the product still works after I broke the screw 'catch.' So I give it 4 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, dangerous design, January 14, 2012

I have 2 issues with this outlet adapter after installing it only 12 hours ago.

1. The housing easily snapped when I attempted to screw it into the outlet. The plastic is very thin and weak.

2. Plugs cannot be fully inserted. The electrical plug for my laptop sticks out about 1/4". This is a fire hazard if something fell across the prongs. It is also a danger for small children as they could easily touch the electrified prongs.

I highly recommend to look elsewhere for a solution to expand your electrical outlets.
