This engrossing book is named for artist/author Erik Wesselo's address in New York City from January 2001-April 2002. In the first, visual, section, he uses drawings, photographs, letters and notes to create a reminiscence of life and events at 56 Beaver Street while he lived there. The documents bear witness to moments of contact between people, when attempts were made to reach out to one another. Some are signs of love and humanity, and others show the moments when each person must care for himself. Part two, written by J.M. Edwards from Wesselo's stories, is almost cinematic in nature, introducing a protagonist, called Pro, who gets tangled up in a lifetime's worth of situations, has all kinds of experiences and makes choices in many different ways. The visual and written sections are two tales beginning at the same point, all asking questions about the nature of the metropolis and the people who live there.
