Product Description

RN-4 lens adapter is designed for Canon SX20, SX10 & SX1 IS lens to accept any 58mm threaded filter, step-up ring or macro lens. A central knurl makes it easy to hang on to when attaching filters or mounting it on the camera. When this lens adapter mounts on the lens, the lens can not accept the original lens hood.

Fits very snug so put it on carefully so you do not cross thread.

Very simple, but really mandatory in order to be able to use 58mm filters. Bayonett fitting locks securely on camera in the same one that the original Canon hood did. So if you want to use a hood with this, you need to get a 58mm threaded hood. You can get a 3 position rubber hood for about $8 with shipping.

Getting it on took me a couple minutes as the three flanges on the fitting have to be aligned just so before it will screw on. It is a little more difficult to put on than if the Canon lense was threaded. Once on, it feels very secure and I don't see a need in taking it off again.

This will make your original Canon lens cap useless. Again you can get a 58mm one that will work. I got a lens cap included with a 58mm filter set ordered seperatly. So good to go.

This is strictly the ring, no glass. I couldn't really tell from the picture of it. You wouldn't want glass cause the more glass one puts between the lense and the object, it can start to degrade the quality of the shot.

There is just so much more you can do with filters, so this adapter ring is a must have! Shipping was fast! I've always had good luck with Amazon.

I purchased this lens filter adapter for my Canon PowerShot SX20 IS which is manufactured without the capability of accepting a standard screw-on lens filter. This adapter replaced the Canon supplied lens cap and the fit/design is great. I screwed on a standard 58 mm lens filter with no problems. I replaced the Canon lens cap with a 58 mm snap-on lens cap I also purchased from Amazon. Mission accomplished and very satisfied.

RECOMMENDED! This fits perfectly on my new "Canon Powershot SX30 IS" to allow for 58mm lens filters. Ignore the unhappy reviewers, trust me this works perfectly and seems pretty durable and does not cause any vignetting.

I bought this along with the following items, all of which work great together, are cheap but high quality, and I recommend:
- 58mm Lens Cap Cover For Canon Rebel XTi XSi XS T1i T2i (Lens caps are standard sized, ignore the model listing)
- Zeikos ZE-UV58 58mm Multi-Coated UV Filter (Lifetime warranty)

My initial attempts to install the adapter left me frustrated. I was at the last step of the Amazon return process when I thought to give it one last try. I carefully lined up the adapter with the grooves of the lens and it slotted perfectly. A careful twist to secure the adapter and all is well. It is a well made metal adapter and its quality was the reason I gave it one last attempt. Otherwise, I would have returned it. It fits the SX40 HS, just take your time installing it.

I received this lens adapter and it DOES NOT fit the Canon SX10. I'm hoping it was just a bad batch, but ended up purchasing another adapter from Lensmate which does work. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else who has the Canon SX10 .

I have a Canon SX40HS. This goes on my camera just as easily as the sun hood that came with the camera. The filter set that I purchased to go with this has 3 filters (UV, CPL, & ND4), and they can actually be harder to take out of the adapter than the adapter off the camera. So, I ordered 2 more adapters to keep on the filters. To those worried about 58mm filters causing vignetting, it isn't a problem unless you start stacking multiple filters on. But that is a small trade off for getting a filter adapter that is close to the diameter of the lens housing of the camera (unlike the OEM filter adapter). I can keep the UV filter on most of the time and quickly switch to other filters if the shot requires it. (And if I really need to stack, I can remove the spare adapters and stack away. Just need to remember to frame within the vignetting and crop the photo down later in Gimp.)

Goes on the outside of the barrel, not on the threads inside. A bit confusing to figure out.

This lense adapter is a necisity for this camera. one of the bigest flaws witht eh SX20is is the lack of threads for filters. Now i dont do a lot of filter photography, but I would hate for something to scratch the lense on the camera. I use this adapter to screw on a 58mm clear UV filter that acts as a lens protector. I am also planning on trying out some more filter shots (ND filter with flowing water)

the only reason why i give this a 4 star instead of a 5 is that you cant still use the included lense hood. i know that is not the adaptors fault really, but it does cause some headach. Regarding ease of installation, it is very simple and seems securly attached. I dont feel like i have to baby it with filters or even a threaded lense hood attached for fear of it becoming loose or breaking off. This is a high quality aluminum ring that is much better than some of the plastic adaptors i have seen before.
