More About the Author

Charley Warady was a stand-up comedian, headlining colleges and clubs across the United States before moving to Israel in 1996 because it was something he had never done before. He continues to do stand-up comedy, as well as writing, blogging, and podcasting. As part of his stand-up comedy while living in Israel, he has toured the world as co-founder of the Israeli-Palestinian Comedy Tour. Writing remains his primary passion; joy and incredible abundance his main goal.

The Donald Roth series by Charley Warady has become hugely successful and reviews have been outstanding. Negotiations are in the works for making the first book of the series, 5IVE SPEED into a major motion picture. More to come on that.

One of the most entertaining books I have read in a long while. Its magic laid for me in the depth of the characters, and their emotional journeys through interactions and relationships. Essentially this is a book about the coming of age of somewhat surprisingly several - adults. These interesting characters (pun intended) stayed with me even after finishing the book. I look forward to the sequel to know what else these well-depicted humans face and how they walk through it. The characters could be anyone you or I know in our seemingly mundane, uninteresting lives. This made the book hard to put down because I wanted to know what would happen next. The intricacies of the webs that we weave in our lives were so well addressed that it makes one wonder what the author has known in his life.

I don't typically find adultery funny, but in this case there was a twist that made it alright in the end. I did feel a little upset with the two couples in question regarding the feelings of their children in this sticky situation though. My favorite parts were the interaction between Donald and his college buddies turned business partners. Some of their scenes would play out great on the big screen with the right comedic actors. I really felt like I was reading a screenplay more so than a novel. Not the best book I have ever read, but a fun distraction from the everyday seriousness of life.

I finished last night. From the opening scene to the close this is a tremendously funny, thought provoking book. And if you've ever been married or are married now, are you one of the four main characters? I know which one I am and I'm not telling.

I laughed so much at the closing few scenes I almost got hit by my wife.

Kol Ha Kavod Charley, but one thing, where did you steal the name of Donald's dishonest client from? I just can't figure out why his name sounds so familiar!

While the overall plot may be not be totally unpredictable, it's actually the more subtle plot twists accompanied by the witty humor that make the story work. All in all, an enjoyable read with some food for thought.

Charley has captured the essence of living in Chicago in the 1960's on the south side. He has brillantly mixed romance, a little suspense, some mystery, etc. into a fun book to read. The story kept me guessing throughout the book. I truly enjoyed the book. It is a great summer read by the pool or at the beach.
