The original version, one of Kaizen Products top sellers for years, needed a graphic makeover, so it was a great time to review the contents. We asked our neighbors, the consultants at Gemba Research, what they would do to improve the 5S ActionPack. "Create a separate Facilitator's Guide," they said, "that will help the first time presenter get ready for a 5S event." So we created separate Facilitator's and Participant's Workbooks. But instead of just printing out the PowerPoint's and labeling one book "Facilitator" and the other "Participant," we buffed up the books in several ways. First, we took a close look at the people who actually DO 5S projects. They're usually a combination of workers and supervisors, generally with an Operations focus. These people are good at what they do, but leading a 5S event may not be one of them.
