5.0 out of 5 stars DISREGARD THE ABOVE REVIEW, December 20, 2001
This review is from: 5ive (Audio CD)
This is not the boy band...far, far from it my friend. This is post stoner-doom-drone rock (how's that for a label?)...heavy as an elephant herd, drums and guitars only. Like some sort of analog mantra, turn it up...if you like anything heavy, and have an open mind, pick this up, along with their second release, "The Telestic Disfracture".

5.0 out of 5 stars You need this album..., November 28, 2003
This review is from: 5ive (Audio CD)
This is one of the best CDs I have ever had the chance to own. 5ive play driving/groove/distorted instrumental rock(although I don't want to classify this as anything but outstanding). It is unreal how good this CD is. From the first track to the last (six total), this album is driving, urgent and intense. I bought this album a couple years ago and it has never left the rotation from my car or home CD player. Buy this album!!! Then put it on repeat, and drive as fast as you can. It will make you glad you did.
My favorite tracks are (though all are amazing)-
1) Burning Season and 5) Bicycle Rider

5.0 out of 5 stars 5ive - 5ive, October 9, 2006
This review is from: 5ive (Audio CD)
TRACK 01 - 9:11

TRACK 02 - 7:40

TRACK 03 - 4:37

TRACK 04 - 5:18

TRACK 05 - 8:47

TRACK 06 - 11:23

If you are stoned and casually surfing the net in your quest for the most extreme psychedelic sludge then congratulations. You just found it!

On first listen this record appears nothing more than a heavy, cacophonic wall of noise. But seeing as I like that kinda thing anyway I kept on playing it and after a few more listens began to delve deep into a rich euphony of sound. Beneath the perpetual pounding of densely distorted riffs, it's the melodious psychedelic undertones harmonised by a deep rhythmic resonance that make this record a masterpiece, and like nothing else.

Though loud and heavy it may be, this album also emanates a much lighter impression and I couldn't help but feel surprisingly elated. Track 4 is especially mellow, and as jxst "Jesus H" previously mentioned, reminds me of meditating.

This album is definitely unique and something special, but if you're looking for comparisons I'd say this record has the prolonged, crushing sounds of Pelican - Self Titled, combined with the atmospheric drone of Earth2, and the fuzzy, melodic psychedelia of We Live by Electric Wizard. Whether that's an accurate description, probably not.

This album, in my opinion, is better then The Telestic Disfracture.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sludge from outerspace., August 11, 2005
This review is from: 5ive (Audio CD)
If early Hawkwind and Floyd had a baby at a Kyuss show, the result would be something approacing the sound of 5ive.

Starting at a turtle's crawl, each track gradually builds into a punishing, skull crushing instrumental jam. Ben Carr's guitar is tuned so low, it's nearly impossible to tell what's a guitar and what's a bass guitar. Charlie's drums are plodding, causing my brain to rattle against the sides of my cranium. In the midst of this fuzzy, garbled mess, I am somehow able to hear a delay pedal oscillating. I bet these guys listened to a ton of 1970 Floyd bootlegs! Soon, I'm completely lost in the music; entranced. I'm feeling as if I am meditating, slightly nodding my head, with the music serving the soundtrack to my worst nightmare. The trip continues for what seems hours. Finally, after one behemoth sounding chord, and a brief moment of feedback, a thunder storm is occuring in the depths of my mind. The album is over.

Smoke some things, turn off all the lights, put on your headphones and 5ive's self-titled album (perferably vinyl), and enjoy! You're in for quite a journey! Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense!!!!, March 22, 2009
This review is from: 5ive (Audio CD)
5ive is one of those bands that you hear and it is just intense and deep. I'd put them up there with Pelican and Isis as far as comparisons in sound and intensity goes. For only consisting of two guys they sound HUGE too. If you want something along the lines of a heavy and intense instrumental band that is neither boring and and repetitive, not way out in left field, and remains in the vain of familiar sounds from the two bands mentioned then this is a cd to be heard, as is all of there stuff. I just keep running across there stuff in the used section and have picked up 3 so far. Intense...loud...beautiful too.
