A waste of time to read this book! The language and subject is very distasteful! I would not recommend it to anyone! I had to give it one star to complete this review but I would not even give it one!

Was introduced to the author through his college classmate. It is helpful to know something about baseball to get the full enjoyment of this piece but it is beautifully written in a poetic style.

read this and feel as if you have been inside the soul of the author. very moving and honest portrayal of the feelings we all have as we pass from the endless possibilities of a youthful blank slate to the reality of middle age accomplishments(and lack thereof)happy, sad, thought provoking and insightful. I thought it was wonderful.

A fast ball with a good spin for a slow reader,

Looking for a quick read this is it... a fast ball for a slow reader. I take time with my books but this was a fast read despite my busy schedule. Life can be like a game of baseball depending on the day and how many times you are in the field or striking out. I am not in my 5th inning or even near it, but I've always known that it is wise to converse with a veteran or a skilled player. E. Ethelbert Miller is a genius of metaphor and memoir. This book reads fast because of it's short chapters are like balls and strikes flowing easily one into each other. I really love the honesty and for those who are looking to write a memoir he even throws you a knuckle or two. As you can see I learned a little bit about baseball and a lot more about growing older. Recommended for those in search of ways to cherish life and also prepare for that last turn at bat which is inevitable for us all.
