Extremely Informative Book, May 26, 2000

I've worked in law enforcement for twenty years as a police officer and was never quite sure of what actually transpires behind the wall. After reading this book, every question or curiosity that I ever had- has been answered. The book was frightening- in a positive type of way. I recommend it to all law enforcement officials, as well as those who might be going the other way and could use a hard slap of reality to bring them back!

Poor writing, editing, and proof reading!, July 24, 1999

This review is from: 6-5: A Different Shade of Blue (Hardcover)
I eagerly looked forward to reading this book since I work with inmates... however it was a disappointment on several fronts. First, it was so badly written, with so many spelling errors, that I found myself annoyed and distracted much of the time. Second, I felt the book presented a very biased, one dimensional picture, of life within a prison. It's too bad- could have been a great book, but it really fell short.

6-5 gave me a truly riveting and uncompromising view of prison life seen thru the eyes of a corrections officer. In the past, i honestly could not imagine the work and the mental and physical toughness one needs to survive in this position. Today and forever, I have great respect for these officers. They are unseen heroes. I recommend this book to everyone; it is a graphic read, no sugar coating here....

A real page-turner...every detail scared the hell out of me!, March 12, 1999

I had always been intrigued about life behind prison walls, but until I read this incredible book, I had no idea that a totally different world existed. It was exciting, scary and I couldn't put it down. I've read many books on real-life police experiences, but to tell the truth, not one held a candle to this story. Police officers deal with violent and dangerous men for a few minutes. Correction officers pick up where they left off and it doesn't end for years. In this book, the inmates were cunning, dealing with drugs, weapons and deceipt. The officers did their best to contain it, but by the end, the truth became clear. Prison is not a place I'd ever want to be. No matter how good the officers are...the inmates preyed on each other every day. It was frightening and quite the eye opener. I'd recommend this GREAT read to anyone. Herberts is right...it's hard to forget!
