Book Description

July 3, 2003
More than 60,000,000 people work at home at least some of the time--and many more are considering it. Now in paperback format, The 60-Second Commuteis the start-to-finish sourcebook for overcoming every challenge associated with working at home--from choosing the right technology to balancing work with personal life. Erica Orloff and Dr. Kathy Levinson start by assessing the pluses and minuses of working at home, and helping readers realistically evaluate whether they're cut out to do so. The authors systematically review meat-and-potatoes issues like insurance and taxation, deciding whether to incorporate, and setting up a comfortable and productive home office. Equally important, they offer extensive practical advice on the personal side of working at home--from time management to "mental health days," avoiding isolation to setting house "rules" that help work-at-home professionals get the job done without disregarding family, friends and neighbors

2.0 out of 5 stars Great title -- simple ideas, March 21, 2003
What a great title! Unfortunately, most of the book has useful but very simplistic tips. There's little effort to come to grips with the realities of home office life.
The BEST part is the section on "the way we were," where the authors acknowledge their organizational flaws. I felt relieved -- I wasn't the only one!

5.0 out of 5 stars professional advice, November 15, 2002
By
Reader One "Reader One" (Boca Raton, Florida USA) - See all my reviews
Mazny years ago the famed author Dr. Alvin Toefler predicted that more of us would be working from our homes. That projection came true leaving a space for advice as to how to do it. The authors Kathy Levinson and Erica Orloff not only provide a solution but valuable advice about issues we may not have considered. This book is tastefully and professionally crafted. Following my reading of the book I found that refering to this text is like going to a seasoned business professional for direction and cousel.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read!, June 7, 2004
Erica Orloff and Kathy Levinson pair up to deliver a jam-packed, step-by-step, practical guide on how to "have it all." You can conduct a fulfilling career and have a personal life at the same time, if you work at home. Today, with the majority of America working from home in some capacity or another, this book is a must-have on almost every bookshelf. In their hysterically funny way, the authors bring to light any snare you can imagine (and some you'd never think of!) while starting a home business or venturing into the world of telecommuting. And if they make it sound just a little too breezy, you'll find that out as you proceed. So whether you're just toying with the idea of reducing your commute time to less than 60 seconds or your business has already taken over your home, we recommend picking up this quick read and spending some time with two funny ladies who know first hand how to make a home-based business work.
