5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT for people preparing for the TOEIC exam
This book is well structured in thematic units with both theoretical coverage of new vocabulary and extended practice in a variety of consolidation exercises.
It is an indispensible tool for people wishing to sit for the TOEIC who due to work load or time insufficiency need a book to help them go through all work-related vocabulary.

1.0 out of 5 stars A lot of errors in answers
I found 3 reason not to buy this book.

First, there are a lot of errors in answers. I cannot believe this book is third edition.

Second, some words are too essential. This book deals with 'sample', 'usually', 'salary', 'choose' and etc. I think These words are too elementary to be dealt with by a TOEIC book.

Third, Words are hardly...

This book is well thinked : you explore all aspects of industrial world with each most important and specific words about them.

12 words by 50 days : 600 words never forgotten because the method is attractive.

I recommend this book for all persons which prepare the TOEIC TEST and who are not really at ease with a large own vocabulary collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific word lists!, June 16, 2011

I love the way this book organizes the words into usage groups. The exercises are rather meager, but a creative teacher can come up with more homework for each chapter. The words are commonly used in the business world as well as in personal business: this is an important book that all ESL learners should have.

5.0 out of 5 stars This WILL improve you TOEIC Score!, October 31, 2009
By
Chris Quinn (Portland, Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews
"Barron's 600 Essential Words for the TOEIC" is the book I recommend to all my students who have studied strategies and methods (and score around 600-700) but who don't have enough English vocabulary to understand everything they heard on the TOEIC. Here's why I love this book:

1. The words are a combination of verbs, nouns, adjectives and adverbs that students will find useful both for the TOEIC and in real life.

2. The words are divided by topic (ex: medical, hospitality, etc.), so that students can study words that often appear in the same text.

3. Each of the 50 different units has various types of practice exercises & quizzes (about 40-50 fill-in-the-blank and multiple-choice questions per unit), so that you get to hear and read the TOEIC Words in different kinds of texts and talks.

4. Each unit has a section that gives other "forms" or "parts of speech" of the 12 words (ex: except, exception, exceptional) so that you can see how the meaning of the word changes depending on whether it is a verb, noun, adjective or adverb.

5. The Questions in the book are at about the same level of difficulty as the real TOEIC test.

6. After every 4 or 5 Units there is a Unit Review quiz, so that you can test yourself on words you studied previously.

Overall, this is one of the best TOEIC test preparations books around. While it doesn't have any grammar practice or complete TOEIC Tests (see my website for a list of my recommended TOEIC Test practice books), it will build your vocabulary skills up so that you will not feel lost in any Reading Text, Conversation or Talk.

All the best on your Test Day!

4.0 out of 5 stars TOEIC, June 7, 2008
This review is from: 600 Essential Words for the TOEIC Test (Paperback)
It is an excellent book for practicing for the test especially the listining part, but lacks one think, that the real TOEIC test contains paragraphes followed by questions which is not covered in this book.

Third, Words are hardly repeated to remember them easily. This book isn't similar to other Barron's vocabulary books(1100 words you need to know, 504 absolutely essential words).

3.0 out of 5 stars Answer Keys with errors and there is no available answer correction on the barron's website, August 31, 2011
By
Decas (switzerland/New Jersey) - See all my reviews
... already right at the beginning there are questionable answer keys at the end of the book.

I was not able to find the correct answer on the website of Basrron's.

Sad thing is that some students entrust the book answer keys more then common sense.

here is one example :

You were engaged when you bought the car, right?

A) Yes, it's in the cage by he cart.
B) No, my fiancé can't drive.
C) We bought the car in March.

According to the book the correct answer is A

Is it really A ?

If you are not fit in English language how could you know where the answer key is wrong?
Some students accept the A answer as they believe it must be some kind of an expression.

I hope Barron's or the author could post the correct answer keys on the internet. (as of yet I was not able to find one)

I also find useful to use some online English dictionaries (webster, oxford or cambridge) to accompany this book to get better explanation or translation into other languages (yahoo translator is quite good it shows also lots of examples in using particular term).

well, any way Judge yourself
