5.0 out of 5 stars Great First Album: Ladytron Proves their Worth with 604
If your new just figuring out what electroclash is or if you are a fan of the genre Ladytron's 604 is a great album packed with great beats catchy songs and interesting harmonies. With 80's instruments and modern production techniques the band is able to sound retro and futuristic at the same time. Overall the sound is fun although many of the tracks have a bit of a goth...

If your new just figuring out what electroclash is or if you are a fan of the genre Ladytron's 604 is a great album packed with great beats catchy songs and interesting harmonies. With 80's instruments and modern production techniques the band is able to sound retro and futuristic at the same time. Overall the sound is fun although many of the tracks have a bit of a goth sentiment to them using the darker Eastern European vocals of Mira and the softer tones of Helaine. The band actually formed in a peculiar way when the two guys in the band met Mira in Bulgaria while DJing and then Helaine joined as they were recording their first singe "He took her to a Movie".

This track is actually on this album twice and while it does have quite an effect it is a rather simple song that is not nearly as developed ad many of the other tracks. This album is a certain must have is you are a fan of `80s music or if you want something that is truly cool. This album will quickly get under your skin and it will certainly become a favorite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Ladytron album yet, March 19, 2006

...although I might be wrong because I haven't had a chance to get Witching Hour yet. I think their debut is the best as I got this one after "Light & Magic". Songs on "Light & Magic" have the redundancy of getting boring often although it's still a nice album to hear every once in a while. I don't know, I think they made their best effort on their debut. All the tracks seems worth hearing and all of them seem different and eccentric. I would say that this is best Ladytron album to get into for a first time listener. Awesome british sounding chick vox with dancy (sometimes chimey) beats! Must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars ummm,,,, yes--YES!!!, February 25, 2005

If the beats' look of the 1950s were placed in the year 2050, this would be Ladytron's look. If the sound were made to emulate innocent truisms and hardcore, well, just general hardcore-ness, this would be Ladytron's sound. I love this band. I love the two lovely ladies of the group, and I never get tired of their sound. It's a mish-mash of Gang of Four bounciness, mixed with unabashed keyboard Korg sound, mixed with the android-angelic vocals of a 1960's style vixen. Love this. You can't not love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smashing Electroclash, April 16, 2010

I don't know who comes up with all these music genre descriptors, but I love the category name "Electroclash" that has been associated with Ladytron. The songs on "604" are beautifully layered with all kinds of quirky sound samples, stark drum machine beats, and austere, emotionally detached female vocals, sometimes in harmony, all being superimposed on top of droning synth rhythms that you can't help but bop along to while listening. Every time that I hear the song, "paco!" I am reminded of the intro to the classic British sitcom, "Are You Being Served," which also is worth checking out if you are not familiar with it. Thoroughly enjoyable CD. Highly recommended, especially if you enjoy "shoegazer," "dream pop," and "trip hop," which are other music genre descriptors that I love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bubbling..., November 1, 2009

to hear Mira & Dan speak: "...we like the warm sound of the antique synths-sort of like Emerson Lake & Palmer....kind of like hanging around Bell Labs in 1970..."
Wow. acknowledging ELP-and envying the enviornment of Bell (research- as in NSA, DOD?) Labs in 1970!? well before they were born
Ive never had it confrimed but they are from Poland or Czecholavakia?

caveat: Im fairly certain that they have been suing this label for years for some reason; they are now on UMG/Nettwerk
Lets hope Nettwerk can get rights to and reissue these and deprive EN of any more income

3.0 out of 5 stars IT DIDN'T BLOW ME AWAY...BUT IT'S GOOD ENOUGH, April 2, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 604 (Audio CD)
I bought this CD because I read the previous reviews and, more importantly, because I wanted to own the CD that yielded the spectacular song "Playgirl". But there was a problem. See, about 2 years ago, a friend of mine gave me a mix CD full of her favorite techno songs, but the only one I cared for was this weird, futuristic, fast paced, droid sounding song called "Playgirl". So, I figured I may as well buy the whole CD...mistake. The version of "Playgirl" that I was familiar with was nowhere to be found on the CD I purchased...and the rest of the CD was pretty mediocre, I felt.

Maybe it was the disappointment of finding out that my song wasn't on the disk, but I tossed this CD to the side for about 2 months afterwards. Then one day I popped it into my CD player while driving to see my friend. I guess listening to it months later made me realize that it wasn't so horrible after all. My honest opinion? Nothing on the CD is spectacular...but nothing on the CD is less than okay (does that make sense?). To put it another way, I don't LOVE this CD...I don't HATE this CD...I don't mind listening to it.

April 18, 2008 - The version of "Playgirl" I was familiar with was the Zombie Nation remix. I still think it blows the original "Playgirl" out of the water. And you know what? I haven't listened to this CD since I wrote my original review. But I listen to the Zombie Nation remix of that one song non-stop.
