Why these gloves received such glowing reviews mystifies me, unless I received different gloves than the ones advertised, even though the Amazon picture is a duplicate of the ones I bought (the gloves I have are grey/silverish "leather", with a thin green cloth trim around the wrist, with each different size having a different wrist trim color, such as brown for the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Imitated never Duplicated, October 5, 2009
This review is from: G & F 6050L-3 Premium Split Cowhide Leather Gloves, Straight Thumb, Large, 3-Pair (Tools & Home Improvement)
The product description is dead on!

No one else can make this type of glove better!

I work landscaping, with metal wire, with water, and constantly with a variety of tools and I have not found are more durable, dependable work glove.

I will never again buy another work glove that doesn't say Atlas Fit.

Why these gloves received such glowing reviews mystifies me, unless I received different gloves than the ones advertised, even though the Amazon picture is a duplicate of the ones I bought (the gloves I have are grey/silverish "leather", with a thin green cloth trim around the wrist, with each different size having a different wrist trim color, such as brown for the medium size glove).

These "Premium Split Cowhide Leather" gloves tore very quickly, almost like a tough kind of paper. In fact, once they get a rip, you could EASILY take two fingers of each hand and tear these gloves to shreds (as I myself just did!) -- again, very similar to paper. This is what leads me to believe that these gloves are actually pressed leather, which is a mulch of leather shavings and a binder, rather than a true piece of animal hide taken from a cow or a steer.

Disappointing, and ultimately far more expensive than real leather gloves, since you would have to replace these constantly as they shredded, even with minor use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really impressed with the quality!, August 9, 2011

I did not expect much from a $3 pair of gloves (which is what they cost individually at this price,) but wow: the leather is soft, the fit good. they are comfortable and sturdy. These have gotten a serious workout since I purchased then. I have pulled up a coupkle dozen cubic feet of fern, some with thorns, all with rough bark, gone after thick underground vines, taken out weeds the size of trees and they have held up beautifully! i had a pair of goatskin gloves of which I was rather fond whgich developed a hole due to the amount to heavy work we have been doing. These have lasted! and are very comfortable, much more so than the ones sold at local hardware stores and garden shops. I have since ordered a second and third set. the first because I can not believe the quality at this price! 9and we always have a lot of yard work) and the second set for my husband, who had been using mine though the fit was too small.

The set we received in large was not the same. It more resenbled the ones we get at the hardware store (but, I believe the picture reflects that). the leather was not quite as soft, but the palms reinforced... still a great value at the price!

2.0 out of 5 stars Quick to Rip, April 27, 2011

These gloves rip too fast. One pair lasted me a month of medium remodeling work and the other 2 pairs about a week each.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK after break-in, January 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When I first put them on, they bothered the inside of my fingers where they join the palm. There is extra material there. After the gloves are broke-in / get soft, that extra material isn't annoying anymore

5.0 out of 5 stars Other reviews for different product?, February 5, 2011

These gloves are a great value and seem to be sturdy. We use them for yard work and they are holding up as well as much more expensive full grain leather gloves we have purchased in the past.

Note: some of the other reviews are written for other products. The gloves you will receive look just like the picture and do not have "mesh backs" and they do have seams. Also, I see no reference to "Atlas fit" as one reviewer indicates.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent grip and long lasting, December 3, 2008

I use these gloves constantly. Due to the mesh, my hands do not get sweaty. Since there are no seams; there are no blisters.

Be sure you select the right size to get a firm grip on things.

I can manipulate a jeweler's screwdriver with ease.

I can get a firm but gentle grip on a solar panel as I push it ahead of me up a ladder.

I get a firm and solid grip on large (2' +/-) rocks that I am rolling/walking towards a new retainer wall.

They are not as 'cool' as the much more expensive reinforced work gloves but they do seem to last longer; the latter tend to wear out in the cloth between the rubber grip pads, where these don't.
