5.0 out of 5 stars Finally the right hard drive for my Dell X-1
After hours on the phone and chat with Dell, more emails to suppliers and the purchase of two other drives that did not fit the Dell Latitude X-1 even though Dell swore they would, this one did the trick. The X-1 originally came with a 30 GB drive. After formatting and installing Windows, I'm set. It is functioning properly.

This review is from: 60GB IDE Toshiba 4200RPM 2MB 8.0mm 1.8" MK6006GAH (Electronics)
I ordered what was advertised as a "new" Toshiba MK6006GAH hard drive from VEMA Electronics. Ordering was easy, shipping was fast. I wanted this drive to breath new life into my old Sony Vaio TR3A laptop. Please note that this is a 1.8" hard drive like the kind that came in earlier ipods. Also note that the drive has a small Apple logo on the label, indicating that it is an OEM Apple ipod drive. I installed the hard drive and promptly installed Gentoo Linux. Since I was suspicious of this drives supposed newness, I installed Red Hat Disk Utility so I could verify it's condition. It was showing Powered On = 286 days and Power Cycles = 10107. That doesn't look like a new hard drive to me. In fact it looks like a pretty beat drive from an old ipod. Over 10000 power cycles? I don't believe this drive will last long. I own drives that are three years old and they don't have >100 power cycles. So I contacted VEMA electronics and was told that their warehouse staff made a shipping error, implying that they sent the wrong drive. They then offer me a 50% refund. I replied that I was expecting a new hard drive and requested that they send me the correct one. They replied that they did not have any new drives in stock, even though their site listed one. At that point I realized that this was a losing battle, so I accepted the 50% refund and I'll just have to wait for my $29 hard drive to fail. So to conclude my review, beware of VEMA Electronics as they advertised used items as new and hope the purchaser does not realize it. Also I'm not real pleased with Amazon as I thought they screen their vendors to weed out the scammers. I guess this is not the case so I'm done with Amazon as well.

First the battery died on my six-year-old 4G iPod 40GB, then the hard drive suffered the clicks-of-death. The battery was cheap, but this 60GB drive was a bit pricey. Both were very easy to install, though, and now the iPod can hold my entire CD library. If I get another six years out of it, I'll be thrilled.

One installation note, if anyone is buying this drive for the same purpose: one of the drive's keyed guide holes (they're on either side of the connector pins) had a plastic plug inserted that prevented the connector from being attached. Once I pried this out with a sewing pin, everything fit together perfectly.

Worked great in my Fujitsu P7120 Lifebook which originally had a 30G drive. Was very easy to install, too.

Purchased to upgrade my existing 30GB 1.8" IDE drive in my fujitsu lifebook. Works and now I have double the hard drive space for around 60 bucks. More expensive than the 2.5" drives but is to be expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harddrive Replacement for Dell Latitude X1, August 10, 2009

My current harddrive luckily didn't die completely, but all of a sudden slowed down to a crawl (20 minute boot up and you could hear it clicking). Lasted a solid 5 years. It took some searching to find a replacement (that didn't cost a fortune), and I found this one (with help from the other review saying it worked for the Dell Latitude X1). Purchased it from the Amazon seller Santechusa, and it arrive in 1.5 days :) New harddrive is humming along nicely.

ps. was looking into getting an solid state HD... but too pricey and couldn't find a "sure-thing" for compatibility in the minimal time I had to get back up and running

My HD went bad on my iPod photo, and I replaced it with this unit. It is the same exact HD that is supplied with iPods. Works well, and is MUCH cheaper than Apple's replacement service. I've replaced a generation 2 iPod HD as well with the 4006, which actually made it run better. The generation 2 iPods used 4004 models so these save power and seem to access faster.

Even though I had left a neutral review, because the hard drive simply didn't work when I hooked it up - I reserve the opinion that it may have been myself who installed it incorrectly. The seller made good anyway by refunding my funds. Thank you so much - and best of luck on your business venture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tiny form factor, LARGE capacity, April 14, 2010
This review is from: 60GB IDE Toshiba 4200RPM 2MB 8.0mm 1.8" MK6006GAH (Electronics)
Salvaged this out of my busted 4th gen iPod and stuffed it in a generic "USB 2.0 External Enclosure for 50-Pin 1.8-inch Toshiba (iPod) Hard Drive" from cubeternet (1.8-inch USB 2.0 Hard Disk Enclosure Case for Toshiba (Color Assorted)). It's nice to have a super-portable self-powered 60gb drive on hand! The drive stays cool, runs quiet, and has never failed, though I do admit it noticeably slower than the 16gb flash drives I've grown used to. Capacity over speed is the name of the game here, and at this size, the MK6006GAH does it well.
