4.0 out of 5 stars Do You REALLY Need the Side-Long Version of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"?
WHO is voting helpful for the two-star review?!! The gist of that review consists of nine words:

"Rip off if you are expecting full length songs...."

And the truth is these ARE full length songs. There are only three songs (out of the 59 included in this set) that are not the full album versions. They are "Signs," "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" and "Sky...

4.0 out of 5 stars Do You REALLY Need the Side-Long Version of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"?, January 1, 2010

WHO is voting helpful for the two-star review?!! The gist of that review consists of nine words:

"Rip off if you are expecting full length songs...."

And the truth is these ARE full length songs. There are only three songs (out of the 59 included in this set) that are not the full album versions. They are "Signs," "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" and "Sky Pilot." And all three of these songs are included in their single-edit versions. Sure, FM radio might have played the album track, but in the sixties AM radio still ruled the airwaves. So if you had these tunes cranked up on your car radio while cruising main street on a Saturday night, these are the versions you heard. So it's wrong to think of these as not being full length. (Besides, did you REALLY want to hear the 17:05 side-long version of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"?)

Bottom line? Working with licensing restrictions, Shout! Factory has done a nice job of presenting a glimpse of THE '60s ROCK EXPERIENCE. Enjoy! RECOMMENDED

Nobody who lived through the 60s could fail to be moved and taken back by this collection!! It seriously kicks. Both the selections and the order of presentation are excellent. I would highly recommend this set to anybody who was of high school and/or college age during the period and particularly if you were both like me. The 60s was a seriously unique time that deserves the reflection this wonderful collection evokes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Journey to the center of your mind, March 25, 2007

This CD digs pretty deep and doesn't just repeat what's on (and on and on and on!) classic rock radio stations. Good variety, good sound quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it!, February 16, 2007

I don't like to think too much about this stuff. No over-analyzing here. When I'm cruising down the road in my Mini-Van....this music takes me away from work and other nagging issues. Good tunes. Worthy of cranking up and testing the factory speakers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good As Far As It Goes, October 17, 2011

This 60's oldies set seems to want you to think it really gets into the 60's music and you will hear lot's and lot's of what made 60's music great. That's fine and it IS an ALL hits package. But there's nothing deep about the cuts at all and this is just a basic "greatest hits" compilation. You can hear most of these songs on any good oldies station and they can be found everywhere. And booklet was the same. NOTHING new or insightful about the era at all. Just boilerplate "this was the 60's!" stuff you've heard or read a million times. They include an extra disc of "lost gems" that makes my point as well. Every "lost gem" on that disc was a song I have in my collection already and I didn't feel any of the songs were lost at all but well known hits of the era.

1.0 out of 5 stars Insult To The 60's, January 27, 2011

The Sixties was a time of great music, album rock, free form FM Radio; like the great KSAN of San Francisco. It was not a time of chopped, sliced, and diced single versions of songs. This disgraceful compilation has 59 songs, 56 of which are the edited singles. Public television created this travesty as a "thank you" gift for one of their endless, obnoxious, pledge breaks.

If you want to truly "experience" the 60's, buy some of the great LP's/CDs from that time.
I've donated my "60's Rock Experience" to the library.

Peace

Very good, but certain songs are missing--lesser hit songs are featured, but the
biggest hits are left out
