Product Description

IDEAL 61-025 Volt Aware Non-Contact Voltage Tester indicates presence of voltage from 40-1000-Volt AC. This tester has visible and audible indications of voltage. It also has a green LED light that indicates whether the power is on or not. So your battery doesn't die in the middle of an important job, there is a low battery indicator so you don't have to worry about its charge. In 1916, J. Walter Becker started the Ideal Commutator Dresser Company of Chicago from his mother's kitchen. He manufactured commutator dresser stones with the belief that every product should be worth more than the price paid for it. Service, he said, was part of the product. That idea has been the core IDEAL business principle for over 90 years. Today, the many loyal distributors and customers that make IDEAL successful are a testament to Becker's original philosophy.

I really like this unit, I call them "tickers." I have had 3 of them now and only replace them due to their ability to grow legs on a crowded jobsite. It has the perfect preset sensitivity and is easy to turn on and off with one hand if your other hand is busy holding a box cover or device. Batteries last virtually forever too.

-I've used better, i've used worse. -This one leans toward the worse,... if you get anywhere near voltage it comes on, sometimes. -I guess my number one complaint is it seems inconsistant. -My old 'Micronta' tester had a red light that got bright as you got closer to voltage... it was much more reliable & sensitive. I'm an industrial electrician, and with that tester you could tell 60vac, from 120vac, from 480vac by the distance away and the brightness of the light. -not this tester, it just buzzes as an on/off indicator, and worst of all, it sometimes will not indicate voltage on a cord depending on the insulation, if you rotate the cord it will go on and off,... not very sensitive. -Also, it is very fat, fatter than most majic markers, and heavy. -Awkward in a shirt pocket. -This tester seems to have only one purpose, stick it in an outlet to sense voltage yes or no,... for that it is adequate, anything more, inconsistant.

-I usually like Ideal products, but they missed the mark on this one. -Find another one,... and let me know, 'cause i need a better one.

I received the product yesterday, and put it in my coat pocket so that I could use it on the job at work today. I keep my utility knife and sometimes a set of pliers in there. Depending on what I'm doing maybe an adjustable wrench or a screwdriver. At lunch today, I emptied my pockets, because I wanted to look at the NCVT. The tip was loose, coming right out of the yellow plastic that holds it. I thought maybe that I could just push it back in and it would click or latch in. Nope. After toying with it for a couple more minutes, it came apart in my hands. It works, kinda. The little button that selects whether it beeps is now missing.

The pity of it is that it is the right size and shape. Uses widely available AAA batteries. It would be highly functional if it were more durable. But it's broken after 5 hours on the job. Junk.
