5.0 out of 5 stars The Season 5 of "Angel" Spike has the best set of accessories, August 8, 2005
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Angel Season 5 - Spike (Toy)
I have at this point in the history of the post-"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" universe seven different six-inch figures of Spike (James Marsters), and it is the Season 5 "Angel" Spike that is privileged as the Spike figure that is on the top of the CD case reserved for my favorite figures for each character from "BtVS" (Yes, I know it is an "Angel" figure, but go chase your own hobgoblins). The original second series Spike is the only one with a base, but he never stays up so he is out of the running (and the "Just Rewards" Spike in vamp face and full trench coat is over with the "Angel" figures). There is also the punk "Fool for Love" Spike, the "Beneath You" Spike, the battered and bruised "Grave" Spike, and the burning Spike from "Chosen." But the Season 5 Spike has a big advantage because it has accessories.

First, you have yellow mug that reads "Kiss the Librarian" full of blood (and with a pencil to stir it so you get the consistency just right). Second, Spike has he amulet meant to be worn by someone "ensouled, but stronger than human...a champion" that Buffy gives him in the series finale "Chosen." Third, there is the Cup of Perpetual Torment that bestows human life from the fifth season episode "Destiny." Fourth, there is a kitten, presumably one of the ones Spike and the demons were gambling for in "Tabula Rosa," and when you see that the Spike figure comes with the cross and burning candles that he hangs from at the end of "Beneath You," you can understand why I have no problems using an "Angel" Spike for my "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" display. Finally, you get a pair of dark goggles and a lighter, just so you remember Spike is a bad man even if he does have a soul and a job, so to speak, at Wolfram & Hart.

Spike comes dressed in black pants, belt and t-shirt, and if you check out above his left eye you will see he has a little tiny scar going through his eyebrow, just like James Marsters. In terms of the sculpting these Spike figures as good as it gets for this series when it comes to looking like the actor, which should thrill the legion of Marsters fans. The 6-inch figure has fourteen points of articulation: the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, thighs, knees and shins (top of the boots). This latest generation of "BtVS"/"Angel" figures do not come with bases (or if they do, as in the case of Lorne, there are no pegs to which you can attach the figures) so you have to limit your poses to something that will keep the figure on its feet. In that regard these Spike figures are pretty stable, but you want to make sure it is displayed some place where it is not going to get jostled and knocked over. Otherwise, look over your options and if for some reason you feel compelled to have only one Spike figure and not every single one with every possible variation then you should consider having the Season 5 Spike be that one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just like the real thing!, April 25, 2006
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

I was SO impressed with this toy. Very rarely do action figures look like whom they are supposed to be - this toy does it perfectly! The accessories are awesome - the mug of blood with straw that was fed to him in Giles' tub, etc. And he is VERY posable. There are 3 arm/hand joints, neck, chin, 3 leg joints, very impressive. Especially since you can move his head up and down. If you like Buffy/Angel Spike - get this toy!
