I recently bought an Intel Mac Mini and was faced with both a golden opportunity to improve the quality of my sound output, and a dilemma. The Mini can output audio by both an RCA jack and offers optical output as well. The quandry? They're both built into a single outlet, which means that the optical interface isn't your standard TOSLink/SPDIF-sized port. But I couldn't sit by and not take advantage of feeding output directly to my home theater digital decoder. The TOSLink to Mini cable fit the bill perfectly. It's sturdy (sturdy enough anyway; you don't want to go yanking on any optical cable, but handled reasonably they're going to last), and outputs amazing, crystal clear sound quality. My iTunes library has never sounded better...same with DVD titles (now the MacOS needs to gain playback support for BluRay).

Best of all, despite the Mini-TOSLink interface type being impossible to find in your local brick-and-mortal type outlets, this was priced not only fairly but very compellingly on Amazon (at the time of my purchase anyway). I'd recommend this to anybody with a Mini, or any similar audio output!

Used this cable to connect my apple airport express to my stereo receiver. This allows me to use the AirTunes function on my Mac and play songs from my iTunes library on my receiver wirelessly. Sounds great.

Mini-toslink to Toslink. Exactly as described and pictured. Works like a charm. I was worried due to reviewer who twice got the wrong cable. But I had no problems. Also shipped fast.

Today's best fiber optic cable can send a 10 gigabit multimode signal several kilometers and it costs 60 cents per foot. Why do some manufacturers charge $60 or more for to send a single-mode 128kbps signal a few feet?

If you're connecting a Toslink device to a mini-Toslink this cable is all you need and it works exactly as advertised. It was shipped fast, works great, and you can't beat the price.

I use this cable to attach my Logitech z5500 speakers to an X-fi extreme gamer sound card. It is just the ticket. It does a great job with the digital 5.1 surround sound on movies and delivers clean and crisp sound in movies and games. As this is the first optical interconnect I have used, I have nothing with which to compare it. However, at the price, I don't think you can go very far wrong.

Today I received my second normal, run-of-the-mill optical cable with a normal, run-of-the-mill toslink plug on both ends. Why is this significant? Because this is the second time I have ordered a cable that "claimed" to have a normal toslink on one end and a mini-toslink on the other. The picture of each cable even showed a mini-toslink on one end, but alas, the cable itself has none. Does the ellusive mini-toslink plug actually exist or is it just a myth? I do not know, but I am done paying shipping charge in order to find out. Beware of the picture...it lies.

I purchased this cable to connect an Airport Express to an optical input on my stereo receiver. It works perfectly for this purpose--my music sounds great! And, it's way cheaper than Apple's Stereo Connection Kit (which has the exact same kind of cable). Highly recommended.

Unlike the reviewer who got a cable with normal toslink plugs on both ends, I did in fact get a correct one with one normal and one mini, but it's not *exactly* like what's pictured here: the cable between the plugs is extremely thin, maybe 1/2 - 2/3 the thickness of the miniplug's neck.

This is arguably a good thing since it takes up less space (fiber doesn't have the same problems with resistance and interference as a conventional wire does and therefore doesn't need to be particularly thick), but I worry about its long-term durability.... this might not be a cable you want to keep loose in a bag with a lot of other stuff.

On the plus side though it does come with little silicone covers for the tips, even if the picture suggests it might not. They're not attached with strings though, so be careful you don't lose them.

As far as using it, I can say mine works fine. Connected my macbook to my receiver and was able to play 5.1 and other stuff with no problems and no fiddling.

I needed this cable to connect our receiver to an HTPC. I originally used a TOSLINK-OPTICAL MINI ADAPTER by Dayton. The Dayton adapter caused the audio to intermittently cut out. Replacing the adapter with this cable fixed the problem. Don't be fooled by the low price. This item performs flawlessly and is high quality.

Another learning lesson I goofed up on. I wanted to go from TV optical out to analog 3.5mm male plug to my speakers. I've sinced learned that a single cable cannot do that. I would need an optical to analog convertor which is much more expensive and no longer feasable to my pocketbook. Cable looks well made and if I could have used it I would have. Price and shipping cost was so reasonable I didn't return it. Seller had it to me in no time at all.
