5.0 out of 5 stars It's a good cable but make sure that THIS is what you need
This is the most common USB cable these days for connecting 'something' to your computer but... beware of the 'Micro-B vs. Mini-B' interface confusion (read below).

On this specific cable, everything is done right, including the price. It is USB 2.0 certified, meaning that it supports data transfer rates of up to 480Mbps and, if your device accepts a Mini-B...

3.0 out of 5 stars Cable is decent, but it is only USB 1.1- IT IS NOT USB 2.0
I bought this cable for an external hard drive, when i discovered the cable is a USB 1.1 cable and not USB 2.0 (I needed 2.0). Please be advised before purchasing one of these that they are USB 1.1 and NOT USB 2.0. Don't make the same mistake that i made (DON'T BUY IF YOU NEED THE CABLE TO BE USB2.0).

This review is from: 6ft USB Type A Male to Mini B (5 Pin) Male Cable (Electronics)
This is the most common USB cable these days for connecting 'something' to your computer but... beware of the 'Micro-B vs. Mini-B' interface confusion (read below).

On this specific cable, everything is done right, including the price. It is USB 2.0 certified, meaning that it supports data transfer rates of up to 480Mbps and, if your device accepts a Mini-B plug, this is the cable to get. Maybe the 2-meter length (6+ ft.) is a little bit too much but it does not bother me a lot and there may come a time when a cable this long may come in handy.

I am awarding this item 5 stars for price and quality - there's nothing to complain. However, I suggest that you look around before you place the order because you just might have one of these already as they tend to ship with many electronic gadgets these days.

Notes:

Anyone in the market for a USB cable should be very careful because there are at least 6 kinds of USB connectors. If you are buying a cable that connects 'something' to your computer or laptop, the computer end of the cable will always be a USB-A or 'Type A' connector. At the other end, you may have a USB-B/Type B - a nearly square shaped connector used mostly to deliver power to a device but this is rare. Most likely, you will have a Mini-B or a Micro-B. The difference between the 2 is that the Micro-B is half as thick while the width is the same - Mini-B is 3x7mm while Micro-B is 1.5x7mm.

If your device (phone, PDA, camera) is a 'new' one and it's using USB, chances are that they will need a Micro-B connector because the industry seems to be adopting the 'Micro' form factor as its standard. If the above sounds simple, you should keep in mind that some devices require Mini-AB or Micro-AB connectors, also known as USB OTG (OnTheGo) devices.

My advice: before ordering any cable, make sure that you clearly understand what type of cable you need.

Whenever in doubt, do some more research and keep in mind that the 'Micro-B' (very small) is the emerging standard and it's likely to be found on the newer and smaller gadgets - phones, cameras, etc. but, before it we had the 'Mini-B' (this specific cable) so the older devices will need the 'Mini'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works with Garmin nuvi 200 GPS, May 23, 2009

I bought this for my Garmin nuvi 200 GPS. This is the right cable. It fits the back and plugs into computers to download new voices and vehicles. It works well and saves a bundle on "brand name" usb cables. I highly recommend it.

These cables are wonderful and for the price, I could not beat it. They give great flexibility and we use them for our GPS devices. Not a single problem!

I like this. It's not often you get surprised that something is BETTER than you thought it was, but this is one of those times. I was just looking for a cheap replacement cord for my Pandigital Novel E-reader, because I had lost mine, and I bought this, not really paying much attention to it, just making sure it was the correct connections. It has Gold Plated tips! For this price, it's a steal for a good cable. Definitely recommend.

This is a cheap cable, which only performs cheaply. It will not power any device nor charge it. I have tried it with many different devices, connected to many different USB and power sources. It will transfer data however, but only if your device has it's own external power. Bear in mind though, that that is even iffy. I used this on a WD external hard drive, and whenever I did data transfers that were larger than 2 GBs or included more than 30-ish files, the cable wouldn't work and my hard drive would "eject" from my computer.

If all you need this cable to do is transfer a few files quickly and without power, feel free to go for it. Otherwise, look for something else.

I bought this cable to give a little more freedom as I use my Nikon D90 tethered to my laptop. It seems to be a good quality cable. I have since purchase this: AmazonBasics USB 2.0 A-Male to A-Female Extension Cable (9.8 Feet / 3.0 Meters) to give myself even more room to roam. It too seems to be a good product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Cable - Unbeatable Price, February 13, 2009

This review is from: 6ft USB Type A Male to Mini B (5 Pin) Male Cable (Electronics)
I needed a cable for my new WD Elements portable HD longer than the 6 inch one supplied with the drive. After recovering from a heart attack from seeing what my local Staples wanted for a 6 ft cable ($21!!!) I decided to look elsewhere. I found these for a cent each + 2.98 each shipping. I figured for less than 3 bucks each it was worth the "risk," so I ordered three.

The arrived today and I have to say I am pleased. They look like they are well made. There is no indication of where they are made, but I would bet it's not USA for this price.

At first I thought they wouldn't work for the drive when I plugged it into a connection on my monitor-based hub. The light on the drive came on and flickered on and off, but was not recognized by the computer. Then I switched the cable to a connection on the computer and it powered up and was recognized by the computer, so I guess there is just enough power loss in the former setup. (This would be a problem with any cable of this length.)

So if you need an extension cable, you can't beat this deal. They shipped promptly from a third-party supplier and came in less than a week.

These cables are very rare and I was so glad to have finally found one for my printer. Good Quality good price, and the connection and worked well! I now have a new printer but kept the cable because every once in a while I may run into a printer that may need it.
