5.0 out of 5 stars A joyful romp through the Brazilian choro repertoire, October 21, 2001
By
John M Miller (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 7 Cordas (Audio CD)
This wonderful pairing of the late (but at that time, very young) Brazilian guitarist Raphael Rebello and the elder statesman of the 7-string guitar, Dino "7Cordas" offers up an exciting program of greatest hits from the choro repertoire, including classics by such giants of the genre as Ernesto Nazareth ("Odeon") and Pixinguinha ("1 X 0" and "Segura Ele"). The performances have a wonderfully loose and informal quality, and the beautiful bass line counterpoint provided by Dino contrasts excitingly with the passionate and technically dazzling melody readings of the late lamented Raphael Rebello. Dino and Raphael were joined on several tunes by percussion and cavaquinho, and the ensemble sound is great. If you enjoy rhythmically vibrant guitar music with interesting harmonic underpinnings and juicy melodies, you will want to pick this CD up.

Listen to the great contrapuntal back-and-forth. On your first few times through, you'll be blown away by Raphael's technique, but when you've listened to it twenty times you'll keep listening to hear how Dino plays the 7 string. Wonderful music. 'Must have' for any guitar player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Guitar Music from Brazil - Raphael Rabello & Dino 7 Cordas, November 20, 2010

This review is from: 7 Cordas (Audio CD)
I've bought it and loved it!
Great Guitar Music from Brazil...
Romantic diversity in daring styles and rare tastes translated into superb Music in masters performances pushing the very boundaries of sweet delight and delicious inspiration.
The late masters Raphael Rabello & Dino 7 Cordas simply play music like the Gods.
I found myself loving all of the tracks however my favourite ones were:
Garoto's "Desvairada" whose virtuosity both music, masters & performance seem to become each other as one during the whole song...
I've also loved dearly Joao Pernanbuco's "Sonho De Magia" which it is played so sweetly that it feels like Magick, actually my favourite waltz.
And finally Noel Rosa's "Conversa De Botequim" which opens with the first track touches the soul in a lively & delightful way.
All tracks are very good and beautiful.
I do recommend this wonderful masterpiece of Music.
