4.0 out of 5 stars 7-Day Afghan
I have made many of these afghans and have enjoyed this book. I found the instructions and patterns easy to follow and they do work up fast. I would recommend this book to beginner and advanced knitters or crocheters. These patterns have given me ideas for some of my own creations in color and design.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little bit outdated for me
I was excited by the other reviews and bought the book, but I'm dissapointed with the 70's and 80's look of these afghans. The black and white photos do help to picture other color schemes you might like to try after seeing the colors presented in the middle of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aghans, fast and easy, February 2, 2001
This review is from: 7-Day Afghans (Paperback)
This is the book I recommend whenever I am asked which one to buy to do "simple" and "fast" afghans. I'd also recommend this book as an important part of anyone's knitting library for the following reason; sometimes you need to make a fast and impressive gift (for a new baby, a house warming, a sick friend.) What is better than a gorgeous afghan in colors you choose to suit your special friend? And afghans don't have to fit anyone. They are also valuable for using up stashes of yarn and for donating to shelters (check first to see your local shelter wants this kind of donation and if they want washable types of yarn.)

4.0 out of 5 stars BEST PATTERN GIFTS IDEAS, May 3, 2000
This review is from: 7-Day Afghans (Paperback)
How could you ask for anything more? This is it.But at first, I was a little dissapointed when I scan the book. Pictures were all black and white , but wait a minute the middle pages were colored it was numbered corresponding of each project. I made a sigh of relief, of course I wanted it colored. Easy to follow and lots of creative ideas.Hope you'll enjoy this book as I did myself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Look past the outdated color combos...., July 10, 2004

This review is from: 7-Day Afghans (Paperback)
Yes, the colors in some of these afghans pretty much scream "late 70's early 80's", but if you can look past that and visualize some of these patterns in currently available yarns, there are some gems here. Easy, classic patterns. I crocheted the "Desert Sands" pattern for my 6yo daughter using a bright, rainbow variegated yarn from Red Heart and it came out beautifully, so much so that her younger sister wants a matching one! Some really great patterns here for beginners. Worth having in your pattern library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great afghans, there are TWO versions of this book though, November 20, 2007
This review is from: 7-Day Afghans (Paperback)
There are two versions of this book, both have great patterns, the original IS an older publication, so the black and white photos and "80's" colors are appropriate to the date of publication, the newer one was done in 2006, and has beautiful color photos by each pattern, the look of the book is clean, the patterns are nice, and look up to date (mostly :-)
Personally, since I both knit and crochet, I like to have both kinds of patterns side by side. Currently I am making Orchid Lace, and it is a lovely classic pattern that works up quickly... as are most of the patterns in the book. If you are looking for a good variety of classic, easy afghan patterns this is a great start.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good patterns for knitters and crocheters, September 14, 2008

I both knit and crochet, so I find this book to be really nice. But anyone who focuses on one of the two rather than both may want to look elsewhere - if you don't crochet, for example, half of this book will be irrelevant to you.

But, as I said - if you both knit and crochet, like I do, you'll like this book. Bright photographs accompany each pattern, and through the use of larger hook/needle sizes (usually 6.5mm and up) and two strands of yarn held together, it's suggested you could create one of these afghans in seven days. The directions are written very simply.

I'm definitely going to make some of the patterns in this book. From feather-and-fan to shells to lace, from stripes to snowflake motifs to pretty granny-square styles, there truly is something for every afghan taste in this book. It's a nice addition to a collection of afghan books.

I absolutly love the older patterns. You can always use different yarn and create an old favorite with a touch of modern day technology! i love this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Choose one, knit or crochet. Make sure ALL pictures shown have pattern in the book, April 18, 2007

I feel let down with this book, not only because of the outdated look of the afghans, but because it contains patterns for both knitting and crochet. The cover is very deceiving. I bought it for the purpose to get the pattern of ONE afghan shown on the cover. It wasn't even in the book!! I bought the hard cover version and the picture on my book differs slightly that they seemed to have changed the cover to match what's in the book, my copy show a varigated afghan in a wave pattern in the upper left corner. What a ripoff!! ...........there was 20.00 down the drain. I also do not like the fact that the front cover DOES NOT say knit AND crochet. It's fine if you are looking at this book in a store and can SEE you are buying a book with both forms, but online, you can't see the back of the book where it says knit and crochet.
