Well, Deitrick is back, which surprised me because I didn't know he was coming out with a new album this year. Not only did he come back with a new album, but came back with a new sound with Tim & Bob helping to produce this fresh and smooth feeling gospel album.

2.0 out of 5 stars Do you really want to sing Gospel?
I have all of Deitrick Haddon's CD's and honestly the one I like the most is Lost and Found. I'm not an old school traditional gospel loving person. I like contemporary, traditional and all that. I dont' pigeon hold gospel artists to a specific genre because God can and will be praised through whatever sound is sweet to him, HOWEVER with this CD I just felt like...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh and Smooth Feeling Gospel, October 20, 2006
This review is from: 7 Days (Audio CD)
Well, Deitrick is back, which surprised me because I didn't know he was coming out with a new album this year. Not only did he come back with a new album, but came back with a new sound with Tim & Bob helping to produce this fresh and smooth feeling gospel album.

He's definitely not a man that's afraid to come out with a new sound for gospel music, like he said in his song "Count Your Blessings", when he said "trying to bring a new sound to the Gospel game had people hating on him in JESUS name." But he didn't give up and came a long way. I remember when I first heard of him from his album Chain Breaker and that album was definitely something different from what was out at that time. I liked all of his albums that I was aware of and even the Voices of Unity albums. When he got to the album Crossroads it kind of seem liked he had hit his peak with that particular sound that he became associated with. So I'm glad he got a new production team for this album.

If you been listening to his albums, you can tell he been through a lot, but like he said "I don't have to fret cause I know Lord you're with me through it all." Then in his ad-libs near the end of the song, he says "Lord, have mercy JESUS...There's so much going on right now." Which is Who we need to call on when we're going though a lot and believe that He's faithful to know He's with us through it all. He sung those quotes in his song "Through It All" which is a very nice song with Damita Haddon singing background.

My personal favorite song is "Heavenly Father" which is surrendering to God and praying to God to draw him nearer to Him and lighting his pathway as he tries to seek His face every day. It's my favorite because it's a great song of prayer with humility and love to sing to God to draw near to Him to have a close relationship.

Then when we have gotten that close relationship, we can ask God, "help me Lord please, to touch somebody, cause everybody needs to know their loved" which is a quote from Deitrick's song "Help Somebody."

So in my opinion, this is a very good album, as long as I'm not looking for that old Deitrick Haddon sound. I like all the songs, especially when I'm at work and I need some smooth, gospel music. I would write more but I think I said more than enough...

I dont' pigeon hold gospel artists to a specific genre because God can and will be praised through whatever sound is sweet to him, HOWEVER with this CD I just felt like Deitrick really wanted to be an R&B singer. There comes a point where enough is enough and I didn't feel any anointing in this and nothing moved me about it. I like Deitrick as an artist but this CD just wasn't it for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Urban Gospel Hit !!!, April 14, 2007

This review is from: 7 Days (Audio CD)
I absoulutely love this album! I think that this album is the best one that he's made. It's different but good from his other album. It seems to reach out bringing the old with the new generation. I enjoyed every single song! The cd begins with a nice intro 7 Days. 7 Days is an good song which indicates how he thinks about God 24-7. Count your blessings shows how far the Lord has brought him (also has that old school beat). It has a little interlude where he asks someone about Gospel music. Don't Go is one of my favorite songs which shows a relationship the beat sounds very familiar(same beat as R&B song Foolish). Heavenly Father indicates his prayer for his spriritual growth in the Lord. Rest is a nice peacful beat that before I'm the One which indicates how God shows everyone that he is the one that can fulfill one's needs. Heaven Knows really makes you think about what the country is facing and how God knows and will make things better. So Good to be in Love brings in the about the love of God with soulful flava. Clap Your Hands really makes you clap for Jesus with praise. Through it all emphasizes how God has beeen with him through all the trials and tribulations. Help Somebody emphasizes how everyone wants to be loved by someone. Inspiration emphasizes how God has inspired everyone and also emphasizes the praise, honor and glory to God. The album then revamps with an the lovely 7 Days outro. This cd is a It's the type of album that never wears out!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great album that I highly recommend, February 12, 2007
This review is from: 7 Days (Audio CD)
This is a great album that I highly recommend. Clever mid-tempo grooves deep enough to swim in so feel free to invest in that sub-woofer you always wanted. And Deitrick Haddon can truly sing, supported by honey-sweet backing vocals. I love the inlay card, clean and classy with honest admission of secular as well as gospel influences. It's said that in comparison to his previous releases `Lost and Found' and `Crossroads', `7 Days' is Deitrick Haddon toning it down a bit, yet it still exceeds anything out there, both secular and gospel. As far as cutting edge is concerned, this is the blade not the hilt.

The choppy `7 Days' poses cutely at the outset, letting you know Mr Haddon is plying his trade outside the safe four walls of a church. Backed up by the dynamic `Count Your Blessings' you are in good hands. `Heavenly Father' drops a sound that shows Deitrick is thinking outside the box. The brave gritty 70s cut `Heaven Knows' with vinyl hiss effect begs to be a classic, as Mr Haddon lets rip what's on his heart. `Clap Your Hands' is a leg-shaker a la Dawkins and Dawkins.

The awesome `Help Somebody' simply throbbed through the air, cut to the marrow, put a smile on my face and made me feel proud of where gospel music currently is at and where Deitrick Haddon is pushing it. Hear that once and you'll buy the album.

The world is ever evolving and so is music. People can criticize what DH is doing in his music, but we must remember he is doing it unto the Lord--and no one knows his heart and relationship with the Lord, but him and the Lord. I believe this music to be a reflection of his love for the Lord, but most importantly his love to obtain a new audience--lost souls to have a relationship with the Lord--if only thru the music. We all have to remember the purpose of the music. I have to say I LOVE the new cd. I've recommended to many people and will continue to do so.

Anyone who knows D Haddy knows that he likes to mix it up. I almost didn't get his new cd's based upon others reviews. I tried it for myself and I like it alot. one reviewer said he doesn't mention God - well I would like to know what CD they are listening to, because he talkes about God through the whole cd and mentions his name.
Just get the CD it is really good and yeah a little different, but DH always mixes it up so accept change and understand and appreciate the message being delivered. Praise God that he is still keeping it real. I do not believe he compromise or sold out. He is being who God made him and using his gift to get a message through and I appreciate it and thank God for him. hopes this helps.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good CD but..., October 11, 2006

This review is from: 7 Days (Audio CD)
Let me preface everything by saying that this is a great CD as far as the vocals and production go. This may be his best produced CD to date. Well, why did I not give it 5 stars? I am just more accustomed to the diverse styles included on his past cd's (R&B, Hip- Hop, Soul, Praise & Worship, Reggae, Pop, etc.) Barring a couple of tracks, this CD primarily has simply a laid back R&B feel. He does an excellent job perfecting that feel, but I was looking for a something a little more eclectic. Plus, as a musician, I would like to have heard a few tracks with more live instruments.

1.0 out of 5 stars The cover says it all..., December 31, 2006

With his body language, posture and wardrobe choice for his new album, "7 Days", you can tell Deitrick Haddon is not the same. I thought I was picking up an extremely worshipful and praise-worthy album that would usher me into the presence of God. "7 Days" sounded to me like it would behold the beauty of the earth the LORD created and take in all of His majesty in the everyday.

Wow, what a dissappointment.

Instead of saying "baby, baby" Deitrick substitutes the words "him." Its infuriating. How can you sing to the LORD like you are singing to a woman?! God deserves more respect and reverence.

This album is sad for me, because Deitrick Haddon has such an incentive to reach the young. But by not making your mission plain for all to hear, it becomes confusing, and you cannot honor God in confusion. Just because we are in the world, doesn't mean we have to be like it. I beleive in reaching all people and "becoming all things to all men" but I first believe in keeping a level of respect and honor for the Almighty and to remember that we sing to God first, before we sing to men. I just pray he comes back to the right path and never makes an album like this again.
