An exquisite journey of captivating tropical rhythms,

Alceu Valença is by far one of the most impressive artists in Brazil, with an unique ability to combine the purest Brazilian music, sounds and folkloric lyrics. In "Sete Desejos", Valença blends an array of fantastic rhythms, with songs that go from the tropical smoothness and sensuality of "La Belle de Jou", "Tesoura do Desejo" and "Junho" to the irresistible beat of the forro and xaxado. It's a taste of everything in typical Brazilian music, even if you don't understand portuguese (but I'll tell you, is worth it to find someone who can translate the lyrics!!). It's a must listen to those seeking to know more about Brazilian and world music!

Brazilian music at its best,

Never heard of this artist until I recently visited Brazil. I bought the DVD concert of this artist while in Recife, Brazil and it contains many of these songs. I have thoroughly enjoyed the music. Luckily on the DVD there are subtitles in English. He looks like Ozzy Osborne, but sings and writes songs more like a James Taylor. If you want to expand your taste for non-American music, this is a good place to start. I highly recommend this artist and I do not think it matters if you can understand Portuguese or not. The lyrics are good, but when transcribed to English tend to lose some of its rhythm and meaning. In my opinion the music is a melding of Pop Music with Rock basics with a splash of an "island" feel.
